I just found these forums after searching for a strange issue I was seeing on my amp. I bought a new gt200 about 2 weeks ago, and almost every time I play, the screen will seem to freeze up and flicker and then the sound will drop out and the preset will change itself. The sound will keep cutting in and out for a few seconds until it clears up. Restarting the amp seems to solve the issue for a little bit but it happens pretty frequently. My initial thoughts are that the Bluetooth connection when streaming music is overloading the cpu, but it’s hard to confirm for sure. Turning off Bluetooth seems to help a bit. I read through some of the forums after finding this is a somewhat common issue, and my amp must be a newer model since the headphone jacks are metal not plastic. The firmware it is running is 2.0.25.

Any help is appreciated! I purchased this online so I don’t know If a return is really feasible if I got a faulty one....

If your unit is having issues right out of the box return it don't try to fix it. Only other thing I could say to try is to do a recovery reset back to base firmware. Then update to latest firmware to see if issues persist. One thing to note is if your base version is lower than 1.3.5 you will have to use the USB cable and patch utility to get it back up. Then afterwards the WIFI firmware updates will work again. Recovery reset is listed in the manual but you just turn off amp then hold preset layer button and xfx button while turning on and keep holding for 5 secs. If needed here is the patch utility if base is lower than 1.3.5 https://tone-support.fender.com/hc/en-u ... 5004685726.

Actually might be better to do a Force Update first then if still having issues try doing the Recovery procedure. The force update is covered on pg50 diagram in manual.

Good luck with issue, I was having some sound dropouts as well but disabling WIFI/BT seemed to resolve my issue so far but its very inconsitant and could be just buggy firmware. I was really hoping Fender would do one more firmware update to v3 to fix all the remaining issues but seems that might not happen but hopefully I am wrong. Great amp when its not having issues.

I am getting the same thing on my new GT 200. I had it in HELLS GATE setting and it would play very low for a second and then amp up. Now it seems to be doing it on all settings and all the time. It has the new update. I can turn off the wifi and the bluetooth, but didn't have them synced when it started cutting out, so i don't think that's the issue. Will also move it to another outlet and remove the stomp tuner, but it shouldn't do this. I think it is time for the return code, but i'll make sure that it is the amp and not some connect issue. It's only like a week old.

I've experienced this problem too. However my amp just failed, will not respond to any reset attempt. The display backlight will light up, that's it. Of the 4 months, I've only played it about 15 times, for a total of maybe 4 hours, that's adding all the times together. Sure does not have my confidence it would hold up for gigging.

Since I just purchased the amp in Aug 2019, I called Fender was referred to the closest repair shop, which is a mere 125 miles away. This guy has a good reputation, been repairing musical instruments for over 40 or 50 yrs now. He calls these amps "throw aways". Not worth trying to fix. He managed to get Fender to just ship a new amp without even seeing mine.

Reading on this forum, that this seems to be a regular problem, if it happens with the replacement, I think I'll have to kick Fender to the curb and just demand a refund. This is ridiculous. This is the very first amp I've had that quit, especially being brand new. I've had numerous different amps.

Interesting reading others experiences...my return window is closing fast and am wondering if should return and trade for the GTX100, interesting that they aren’t offering a new 2x12 in this new line of amps, only reason I’m thinking of keeping what I got...

Since yours is brand new like mine, it supposedly has a hardware “Fix” for the drop out issue which isn’t the case, but I have found overuse of Tone app while connected with Bluetooth and playing on presets with a lot of effects really contributes to the problem. It definitely seems like a CPU overloading problem to me. I read from someone else to point a fan at the Back of the amp and ever since doing that and not trying to fiddle with too many of the settings and features all at once has really made the issue almost diminish completely...
