So..I love the 200. Love it better with my Sony headphones. So the quality that is missing is this warm buttery tone on the clean and then then the driven tones on the stock speakers. Any suggestions? I'm a little apprehensive because they claim this solid state needs a different speaker. ( I have no experience with solid state) I need one of you tone geeks to help me out here.

Thanks

I dunno where u heard SS requires a different speaker but thats BS. Plenty of SS amps use typical guitar speakers that also come in many tube amps. The GT however is a different story than most amps and the speakers in it are NOT typical guitar speakers. They are designed for fender exclusively for the GT and the design is made to be sort of in between a regular guitar speaker and a full range speaker. The amp as u know has the ability to stream music thru bluetooth via the phone app for the GT and therefore it is voiced for streaming music. The obvious goal was a speaker that would do both that and guitar tone well. But thats not possible so there are compromises and the guitar tone suffers for the sake of streaming music. If you ever tried playing music from a CD or mp3 etc thru a regular guitar amp/speaker/cab you'll understand how bad that sounds. So guitar tone is compromised for the sake of streaming music. I understood this and the tone from the stock speaker sounded to me exactly what i would expect from that senarios, so i began trying speakers.

The only issue is the amp uses 4 ohm speakers and only a small percentage of guitar speakers are available in 4 ohms. I tried 3 other speakers and settled on what sounded very much right in the middle. No excessive peaks or valleys, just good solid guitar tone that i felt allowed the amp to sound right and be in the middle as far as bright/dark so that there was a good balance and allowed the amp setting to be more usable. That turned out to be the celestion G12T100 which does come in 4 ohms and is a 100 watt speaker. The new name celestion uses for it is the "hot 100" but it's the exact same speaker. Your amp i believe also uses 4 ohm same as my GT100 but check just to be sure. As far as i know the GT200 has 2 separate power amps, one for each speaker. So they should be 4 ohms. Anyways, forget what u heard about SS needing different speakers than tubes, it;s a ridiculous notion. I've been playing since the early 70s and have owned mo0re amps than i care to try and recall both tube and SS. The only difference in tube vs ss amps as far as speaker choice is tube amp wattage is much louder. EX: a 100 watt ss amp will put out a lot less volume than a 100 watt tube amp. So you simply want to use speakers capable of more wattage with a tube amp than a ss. So you actually have a WIDER window of whats good and reliable in a SS amp than tube. Here's the hot 100... https://celestion.com/product/23/g12t_hot_100/

You should experiment with the different speaker/cabinet models available in the software before you spend dollars on a new speaker that will compromise the overall intention of the Fender software modelling.

There is such a range of sounds available I am sure you can find one you like. I found quite a few, but as my tastes will be different to yours, I won't suggest any in particular. Just play around swapping. Pick an amp model you like and go for it. Don't afraid to attach different brand speakers to different brand amps.

I also replaced the speakers in my GT200 with Celestion G12T100 speakers and have been very happy with it. The other guys in my band noticed the difference before I told them what I had done and they still comment on how much they like the sound of the amp, which surprises me since they all lean toward tube amps. Actually, right now, we are playing out with 3 guitarists (2 lead, 1 rhythm) and I'm running the Mustang GT200, one is running a Mesa Boogie head and cabinet, and one just got a Boss Katana. The 3 amps blend really well live.

There ya go ! And the fact the other band members noticed it and liked it a lot more speaks volumes ! Everyone knows band member rarely ever comment on or give a F about the guitar player's tone unless it a radical change. Been singing the praises of replacing them with the G12T100 for a long time now. To me it's more then just better sounding, it changes the amp from sounding like a harsh sterile modeler to exactly like a tube amp. Like the best tube amp i ever had? Of course not. Most of the TUBE amps i have had weren't that good. But it changes the sound and more importantly the feel to IMO 100% realistic tube sound/feel. The stock speaker accentuates the digital nature of the amp. Especially at louder volumes here it's not even a question. There are those who say the like the stock speaker but I'd wager few if any of them have tried a G12T100. There are no doubt other speakers that would work well too, but the G12T100 just happens to sound great as it did with the old mustang lines which CAME WITH IT ! The reason they went with this stock speaker in the GT, and this was admitted to me by a fender rep when i suggested it was affecting guitar tone, is to improve the bluetooth streaming music feature. It was a COMPROMISE between that and guitar tone and guitar tone lost big time. Yes, i know i sound like a broken record but i'm passionate about this ridiculous issue that IMO ruins the tone of an other wise great sounding/feeling modeler.

I've had my GT100 for about 6 months, and while I love the versatility, I noticed the same problem several others have reported: ear-fatiguing highs/high mids even at fairly low levels and an often flabby bottom end when using overdriven/distorted sounds. After reading this thread and several others, I decided to try a speaker swap. Happened to find a nice deal on a 4-ohm Celestion G12T-100 and installed it last week; the swap was super easy and took less than 10 minutes.

How does it sound? Loads better! I could tell a difference right away. The G12T-100 tamed a lot of those unruly highs and really tightened up the bass. Even amp models that I didn't really like before (e.g., 80s British) now sound good, and my favorite ones sound better than ever! I'm still tweaking presets and experimenting, but it's safe to say this speaker swap was a the right move for me. Thanks everyone for the information!
