Hi all. I purchased a Mustang GT 40 a few weeks back. I was a long dormant guitar fondler, and the Mustang GT has succeeded in pulling me back into guitar love/nerdom, so much so, that I’ve been geeking out on Premier Guitar’s Rig Rundowns on YouTube. There is a lot of info out there are various guitar player’s signal chains. I guess my question is, how would you go about distilling this information into some kind of derivitive tones in the Mustang? I don’t understand 90% of the things I read/hear about gear and electronics, but I’m always interested.

Example - this site keeps track of Trey Anastasio’s rig/signal chain. https://treysguitarrig.com/treys-signal-chain/
How would I go about taking this info and making a series of tones? Newbie question all around. Thanks for your guidance.

Hello and welcome to the forums!

In the example you provided it would be difficult to exactly match within the GT-40 effects chain since you are limited in the number of effects you can place in your chain. Trey has multiple instances of distortion and delay etc in his rig.

Having said that though, he does follow the 'general rules' that many people follow when creating an effects chain. The basics are to put your overdrives and/or distortion pedals, dynamics (compressors) and EQ based (wah, mutron etc) in front of the amp (Pre-FX), and any time based effects (Delay, reverb etc) behind the amp (Post-FX). Modulation effects like chorus or vibrato/tremolo can get nice results before or after the amp. It depends on what sound you are looking for.

Here's something from Fender that goes over the basics of signal chains and describes the effects available within the GT series. Hope this helps
