I have had my GT200 amp for 18 months now and until recently had no issues at all.

I updated to 2.0 firmware about 6 weeks ago and that is when my problems with the USB started.

There is a noticeable change in fidelity coming out from the amp speaker when I put the USB cable in (compared to without) is this normal?

Secondly and more importantly, all of my recordings via USB now have a crackle to them. Why is this?

As I mentioned before I can hear the crackle through the speaker before even recording as soon as the USB is plugged in, without USB the sound is back to being brilliant and no crackles.

I have tried new leads and cables, different guitars and a different mac but the amp is definitely the issue here. As a temporary measure, I am currently recording using the line out of the amp to a USB interface, this way I have no crackles but it's not ideal.

Any help and advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Jim

Just to update everyone. I received a brand new GT200 this week under my warranty.
But the same problem persists ☹️
I am really stuck for ideas now, any help out there?

The v1 and v2 amps had a setting for "USB Gain". It was hidden in the Advanced Amp section of Fender Fuse.

I'm trying to find documentation about the same for Mustang GT amps, but coming up short.

So if you know where the USB Gain adjustment is in Fender Tone (or using the physical buttons/knobs), try turning the USB Gain down. An overloaded digital signal sounds exactly like what you describe, "crackly".
