I purchased a Mustang GT this week and have so far been pleased. There is a great deal to learn and I have learned quite a bit reading this forum along with documentation on the Fender website. I picked up guitar later in life and have been playing almost everyday for about three years. I guess I would consider myself to be an advanced amateur beginner  and just try to play, enjoy, and slowly get better. I play a great deal off of chord sheets and mostly play rhythm but also like to noodle around with scales over backing tracks. I know a few blues licks and riffs that I have learned. So far I have not encountered problems that many have mentioned. I do not know much about amps and effects. When I decided to start playing, I knew virtually nothing about music. Did not know chords, scales, how to read music, etc. I bought a Les Paul copy and a Blackstar practice amp that I mostly just played on clean settings with a little reverb. A little later I bought an Eastman guitar that is a copy of the Gibson 335 and I play this guitar the most.

I like the portability of the Mustang and how I think it sounds good at relatively low volumes for home playing. I do not have a smart phone so the tone app is not an option for me at present.

I was curious as to any good downloadable presets that you might recommend from Fender Tone? I was planning to get a few this weekend. I saw Pink Floyd, Allman Brothers, Joe Bonamossa, and Gary Clark Jr. tones that I was interested in. I really like the tones similar to what Dickey Betts gets in Blue Sky, Elizabeth Reed, etc. I have also been noodling around with rhythm for Jazz standards as well (not the easiest thing to play). I guess I like what I think of as a warm relatively clean tone for most things. I like blues, classic rock, jazz, and a good bit of older pop/rock music. I would say Warren Haynes, Dickey Betts, and David Gilmour are some of my favorite guitar players.

Any recommendations or wisdom would be appreciated.

Hi, I would get a notebook, go through the existing presets,
and write down the number and name of all the ones
that are useless to you, on the left-facing page.
Then pick a sound from the hits that you want to replicate, analyze it
noting all the characteristics you can
identify, something like

mid-eq, clean amp, subtle tremolo, delay-4taps, slight reverb

and begin building it with GT eq, amp and effects.
You can save your work on the amp as works-in-progress, and note
your changes in the notebook on the same line of the right facing page.
Once satisfied with a created sound, rename accordingly.

This link is for using effects in general, lots of info and tips.

I started tumbling to your suggestion yesterday to figure out which presets are useful or not and your suggestion to make a list noting what you like or not is a good one. There are so many that you quickly forget what is what. I did make a tone yesterday that I like for jazz tone so I now understand how to chain them together and make some adjustments. I believe this would be easier to do with the app.

Thanks for the link-will give it some study.

If you know someone with an iphone, give that version of Tone
a trial, from what I've read, it's better by far than the android effort.
Phonemakers turned android into a _issing contest,
and getting apps to work nearly universally, is much easier
on an apple product, with one boss, instead of dozens
of wannabees mucking things up more with every update.

My 24 Mustang 1 V1 presets are archived visually on the back
of junk mail envelopes. If there's a crash, I just stack them up again
Cheers
