Hey, I wanted to thank you for a wealth of information! I saw in your chart that a host of new presets were added. Will they add to the specific channel locations that you listed? Honestly, I'm trying to weed out a lot of presets that are simply not wanted. For me, I could get rid of just about every metal preset. I hate how difficult it is to re-organize everything. Do you think there is something in the works to establish PC/Laptop link versus just a smartphone app? I absolutely love the versatility, but I don't need 200 presets.

Hi there mtbkr55:
Yes, there have been more than 50 presets added in the last firmware update and I agree that many of them are underwhelming or not useful to many. I do believe however, that Fender includes them to cover the widest range of consumers of the GT series amps and even provides some to illustrate how the amps, cabs and effects can be used. I have updated the spreadsheet (shown in the very first post: links) to include all the new presets and effects. To note: Some interesting and useful amps and cabinets have been added, as well as some new effects.

With regards to organizing the presets, I find it is easy to do using a mobile device or my ipad. I can delete, rename, tweak and reorder them as I please with relative ease on an ipad. I also use SetLists as a way to store some interesting presets in a focused manner, so I can access them more quickly versus scrolling up and down looking for a particular preset.

You raise an interesting question regarding a PC/Laptop link - I would think that since the amp has wifi, it could be controlled via an online portal/gateway direct to my amp, much like cable or satellite TV, or any over-the-top provider like Hulu can be controlled on a TV via an online/cloud app. So really, any MAC or PC or any device that is web-enabled can control the amp peer-to-peer.

Maybe someone from Fender product development is listening in and can either take this idea back to the product development team or even chime in with some sneak-peaks of future features. And, since the Fender prod dev team may be listening in, let me list some other ideas I have for future firmware versions:
* allow a parametric or multi-band EQ to be applied on top of any preset as a global setting
* offer a GT50 or GT75 model that has one 8" or 10" speaker in it to bridge the gap between the GT40 and the GT100. I suspect a model in this range could then be used as a portable practice amp and as a small gig stage amp, like for a church band or small bar gig. Think Princeton Amp - the penultimate practice/gig amp of all time, IMHO. I know the GT100 is supposed to be "that" amp by design, but there may be room for a 50-75 watter in the lineup - only the product marketing people can tell us that.
* Provide a cheat sheet of all the overlooked features that are hidden in the amp - such as holding down the bottom rectangular button while turning the treble knob adjusts mid tones, and holding the TAP button down for a few seconds gives quick access to the tuner. While these are in the documentation, they are hidden in a short 1-sentence phrase and can easily be overlooked - they are not called out with some sort of "TIP" symbol. I wonder how many more little quick-access or undocumented features there are?
* provide a brief description of the amp, cabinet or effect when choosing it. These can be provided as small text on the settings screen.
* add a "category" or "genre" filter to the presets - so a user can classify a certain preset into a user-defined sound genre, then allow the user to screen the presets using a certain genre to help sift through all the presets. The genre is captured in the Tone Cloud now, but is not carried to the Tone app or to the amp itself.

I am sure there are more I could come up with, but that's a good list to start.

In case you missed it, you can hold the top rectangular button to bring up the setlist menu quickly (added in the v2 update).

I have uploaded a video walking through the strengths and downsides of the GT-40, along with 20 tips on how to make it sound like a million bucks. The video follows the script of the companion article I wrote a few months back.

Great video, but I think worthy of a new topic 8)

What is the exact model of ipad used
in the movie? Tone looks to be working well
on it. If I go that route, I want to buy
exactly what works.
Thanks for making the video!

The rest of the blog is also cool.
Lots of man-hours.
Hope you didn't get hammered by last weeks
outburst of global warming
Cheers

Guildorf, I would not stress too much over compatibility. Apple and Fender Tone are very compatible. I use it trouble free on my IPad 6 gen model#MR7K2LL/A (early 2018) and my IPhone 7. I would also recommend these 2 apps: Transcribe+ , which allows you to change speed and pitch on any backing tracks you might have. Guitar Tabs, which has tabs for many songs out there. I understand an IPad is a huge expense, I can only vouch for what I listed but they work great.

Thanks for the info. Time is money, so having a short list
of products which Tone is confirmed to work correctly with,
is money in the bank. Why a list of confirmed working
devices has never been produced by Leo's descendants,
is a mystery :? I think the pundits would call such a list
a cash cow, or rain-maker :)
Cheers

Guildorf, I’ve used Tone on an iPhone 5s, 6s, and XS; an iPad Mini 2; and an iPad Pro 10.5” version. No issues on any of them. The iPad Mini 2 is actually my favorite device for Tone, as it’s just the right size to easily fit on a shelf next to my typical practice location. If you have a device that will run iOS 10 or later, you will have no problem with Tone.

You can also do it the 4 ohms speaker for an 8 ohms speaker. It mathematically cuts about 30% of the available volume so kind of like reducing wattage, but you get to pick the speaker you put in, too, to emphasize your playing genre. About 20 minutes and a screw driver are all you need to do this. I put a neodymium speaker in mine for weight reasons (nerve damage, back) and it's less neutral than the stock speaker but not too dark or sound coloring, and has more British Rock tone and over all better quality of sound than the stock speaker. Sure it was extra money, but it is an option if you find some aspects of the stock speaker lacking out if 100 ways is too loud for your application but you still want a 12" speaker. Of course there is always the 15 watt superchamp X2, also.

Now if they would marry the gt100 modeling engine as display with the SCX2 Tube clean channel, tube stage, wattage, and speaker size? Oh my god is be all over that in a heartbeat.
