Hi,

I have a Mustang GT40 amp that has a constant soft 312hz tone coming from the speakers, it is there all the time if a guitar is plugged in or not. There is also no output from the amp, the only ouput I can get is if I connect to the AUX in port.

Any ideas what could be causing this?

It sounds like its brain dead.
One thing you might try to get an idea of whats wrong is to set it outside on a cold night in a dry place.
See if it works for a few minutes until it warms up.
If it comes around, you might be looking for loose ground screws or bad connection or bad solder.

PS How did you determine 312 hz?

Amp came with a 1 year warranty and hasn't been out for a very long time. I'm guessing it's still under warranty.

I'd skip the cold air experiment and bring it back to the store for repair or replacement. Fender needs to put out a product that doesn't crap the bed in a matter of a few months. Don't try to fix it when it's under warranty. That's 'enabling'. They need to get that amp back and take a loss on it. Otherwise there is no motivation to improve.
