Hey everyone. I have a GT100 whose USB port broke off the circuit board. Guitar Center is of no help, and I can't find anyone locally to repair. Any advice? Admins?

Is it new, or used? Still under warranty? I'd start there. I don't know, being solid state, if it can be repaired or not.

I've run into this with broken USB connectors. The tiny GT Micro USB port is directly mounted to the Main Motherboard. The connection pins in the Micro USB connector are so close together that it takes specially designed SMT (Surface Mount Technology) repair tools to magnify and then desolder the printed circuit board properly to remove and replace that connector. Very few music related repair shops have the equipment along with the expertise. If you managed find a shop it'd have to cost at least $100 plus for the repair since the entire MB has to be removed from the amp in order to use the tools needed to do the job. Warranty does not usually cover broken external connectors. Good Luck, this may not be worth the effort or cost.

OP are you in the United States? Your Mustang GT amp should come with a 5 year warranty. Guitar Center should know that. Did you buy the amp from them? I don't know if warranty "usually" covers this repair but it's free to ask.

All GTs are 2 years with exclusions. The previous warranty for earlier Mustang models was 5yrs but not the GT models. The details about what it specifically covers is spelled out on the Fender website. To get warranty service usually (but not always depending on your story) an authorized Fender service center has to inspect the amp and submit their findings to Fender for approval. Fender was very lenient when the amp first launched but it's now been out for a few years so who knows. It can't hurt to ask and try.

Amp line isn't even 2 years old yet. Guessing it's still under warranty.

I wonder what drove them to lower the warranty to 2 years. Perhaps the fact that they are trying to build disposable amps.

Do the yourself a favor, don't buy a piece of electronic gear that's designed to fail. Do the planet a favor, don't buy an amp that's designed to be thrown out after 2 years. It's borderline irresponsible.

I was assured my GT100 had a 5 year warranty when I bought it here in Australia.

Around here, we've got one reputable shop left,
and three years ago, it was $110 monopoly money
just to do an electrical evaluation (it was a JV 1080 rack-synth,
result, the fix would cost more than buying a working replacement.

But you know what's wrong,
and might get a ballpark quote.

If it's working, I'd use the headphone-output to x, y, or z,
and then get another amp. I tie my cables off to protect the jacks,
but now I think I need to screw some wood blocks around
the amp usb connector, in case it gets tipped backwards.
Fluffy little thing that it is.

Good luck!

Well to be fair, it IS the most common these days. You can use any old phone cable to connect to it.

The smaller USB connections are made for smaller devices, like phones and tablets. Putting that on an amplifier makes about as much sense as putting it on a desktop PC. None. If it has to be tiny, at least go with USB-C. But this is what I would want personally:

Thanks for all the advice ya'll. I may call Fender and see if it is covered. Past that, I use the amp USB to record, not as a stage amp or anything, so for $250 I could get another GT40. I use a HeadRush pedalboard, the GT100, and a GT40 as an aggregate device into Logic for a nice wall of sound that's tracked from one performance. It makes great textures and all the timing is spot on. No need to spend a lot of money to fix Fenders "Bic Lighter" amp.

Thanks again for the advice.
