Greetings guys,
I have an MGT-4 connected to a GT100 amp. The other night I ran over the MGT-4 cable with the rollers of my chair and think I damaged the cable as the footswitch does not work anymore. Until Fender gets more local stock of replacement cables, I am wondering if I can use an ordinary Fender guitar patch cable to connect the two. As I do not want to damage the MGT-4 or the GT100, I am asking if anyone knows if it is OK to do this. Many thanks.

Look more a speaker cable not a guitar cable to me.
Any speaker cable will work

ImageSome speaker cable are from 2 wires in parallel, some are round like guitar cable but they are not guitar cable

Yes for a temporary replacement you can usually use a common guitar 2 conductor cable (the shorter the better) or many types of common Speaker cables. The amp wants the connection to be any speaker cable where the size (wire gauge) of the 2 connectors are similar to what the footswitch came with but I'm sure there's Fender exact replacements around. The footswitch signals are sort of an analog/digital pulsing mix but for the most part a 10-15ft cable is not that critical. Speaker cable has a larger conductor size than a shielded guitar cable center conductor which is important to the signal transmission to the footswitch. Some might say a shielded guitar cable has capacitance that might affect the signal but not at the relatively short lengths the (not a guitar) signal has to travel; it's the length and wire gauge that counts in this application. It's preferred to use a speaker cable until you can replace the original. Good luck

Make that 3 votes for speaker cable until you get the exact replacement.

I will add this though - if you did use a regular instrument cable, I don't see how it could damage the amp. The only problem would be sometimes spotty performance. So it would likely work perfectly most of the time and every once in a while it might "bug out" and act like a button was double-pressed (just an example). So my point is, that might be perfectly acceptable for home practice use while you wait for a replacement cable to arrive. At a gig, maybe not so much.

A guitar cable won't damage the amp. It is not the best choice.
