Well, all the previous issues with tone app aside, b4 this latest update i was at least able to connect with it to my amp (via BT)...no such luck this time...and I've gone thru all the "remedies" I'm aware of including rebooting amp, my cell (android), app permission, etc. this really really sux cuz I've been looking so forward to being able to back up my patches...It's the single biggest upgrade feature for me...

My experience has been largely positive so far. I realized there was an update late at night, so I couldn't test the amp straight away, but I did follow the procedure in release notes to get the amp updated, my custom sounds backed up. I grabbed the new presets and restored my custom tones. All of this went without a hitch, the app connected easily, and I really like the new icons on the amp display, letting you know that the Tone app has connected.

This morning I got to do a quick run through the new presets. Now, before I begin, I've long ago decided that most of the negative comments these amps get are due to the really crappy/basic factory presets. The truth is, the GT line is really, really good (unless you're expecting a boutique tube sound, in which case you're looking at the wrong segment of the market), if you fiddle and dig deeper. I have 5 or 6 sounds that I've built which I really enjoy.

The new presets, that show off some of the new effects and amps seem to be much better. I can see myself using some of these without any modifications.

I like the acoustic sim quite a bit. Middle pickup on a Strat, with the tone rolled off a bit and it sounds great. I can't wait to start tinkering with that, add some delays and get a lovely ambient sound.

Now, I'm primarily a bedroom guitarist, I've long since stopped playing gigs, so I'm a bit out of touch with the latest and greatest equipment. My pedalboard has been sold off and I'm quite happy with what I can get out of a tiny GT40 with a footswitch and an expression pedal.

Overall, for me, at least, this was a very positive experience and I'm excited about trying out new combinations.

Some of the highlights for me are the acoustic sim, the Bassbreaker 15 which sounds lovely. I have no experience with the actual Klon, but I like what the Mythic Drive does to a Twin or even a higher gain amp.

I updated the app and the firmware late last night. It was too late to plug a guitar in and try the new presets and cabs and all that, but everything is working great. I followed the directions to get the new presets and keep mine (just uploading mine to the community). Looking forward to checking everything out after work today.

Updated the amp no problem, but no longer able to update the Android app. Google Play says its no longer compatible with any of my devices. The latest is running 6.0.1, and updating isn't really possible. I've only had the amp 1 week.

So is 6.0.1 no longer supported!?

So far I like what they've done with the new amps and cab sims, and the Tone app is much better. I'm a little disappointed in the acoustic sim, but I use something else for that anyway.

One and a half thumbs up lol

I do like the backup feature. But do you have to backup/restore all the presets at once? I'd love to be able to pick and choose which presets I back up or restore. (Just like with fuse)
It has been suggested to upload presets to the tone community. Is this feature available in android? I haven't found it.

Playing through the new amps on my GT40 in more detail, I've noticed the following things :

1) Changes to sag and tube bias seem either extremely subtle to me, or not functioning at all, apart from on the IIC+ Lead where I can hear the sag change.

2) Does the 'body level' on the Acoustic function properly? I can't detect anything when I use it.

3) On the Dual Showman the 'bright' switch doesn't seem to have any noticeable effect. Also, I may just be remembering wrongly but I'm sure the bright switch on the 60s British amp has reverted to how it was before the fix in October 2017 (v1.5.20). I can barely hear the difference now with it off or on.

These are just my thoughts, anyone else notice these things too?

PB

Positive: like the new features, UI refinements (e.g., mids are now accessible from a button-knob combination on the GT40).

Negative: interface seems jumpy after update; see https://forums.fender.com/viewtopic.php?f=50&t=110627.

Had my first long play with the new firmware (and updated app) yesterday. In the main, very impressed. Certainly seemed to be some improvements to the overall sound to me.

Still slightly frustrated that two niggles still remain regarding setlists... IE. when in a setlist, the footswitch doesn't cycle through the presets in the list - only the entire list of presets. And when using the app, when selecting a preset I don't always want it to open as if I want to edit it. I'd rather the list remained onscreen so I can select another preset quickly.

My presets were scrambled after updating to ver 2.0.21 & Fender Tone for IOS ver 2.0.1
Some preset numbers/settings/titles were mis-matched & my iPad constantly synchronized browsing through the presets. I resolved this by:--
1). Deleting all my playlists & presets, then
2). Recovering Base firmware in accord to the owners manual. This reverted Base to 1.1.3 & firmware to 1.1.3
3). Redid the GT WiFi settings as these were wiped
4). Power on WiFi update per User Manual
Result - all running smoothly, & iPad preset browsing instant in Fender Tone
Thank you for the comprehensive update, Fender - a definite value add to my GT200 functionality.

Actually, it shows up on the amp as 2.0.25, despite what it says in the release notes. The jumpy knob is much better.

(ETA: they fixed the release notes, and it now says 2.0.25)
