hello, im thinking about buying a mustang gt amp for playing in home and for gigs. im thinking about gt100 but my question is can I change to lvl of power im using like in vox vtx or boss katana, becouse 100w seems really loud and I'd like something that i can jam with in my bedroom too. So is there any way to make the amp overall less loud so not every time gonna to tweak something in the amp it going to destroy my ears? and i also wanted to ask is the muffled sound fixed now on gts?

You can't. And the katana doesn't either IMO. I have one. As far as i can see, and i'm quite sure of this, the power attenuator is nothing more then a signal attenuator which sounds pretty much the same in any position. In fact, i think it sounds better at 100 watts when playing low than using the 5w position. It's a gimmick IMO. The only thing it really does of any usefulness is make the master knob's range less touchy. You can accomplish the same thing by using one of the EQ's in the mustang and position it at the end of the chain then leave the EQ flat and just lower the level in the EQ.

Yes you can.
Here i have a EXP-1 expression Pedal at my GT 100. With it, you can control the volume much better, as with the Volume Knob from the Amp. Here i play in my Room with a very comftable Bedroom Volume.

I'm not saying you can't adjust the volume. In fact there are many ways. But he's not talking about that. He wants the effect of a power attenuator that is different than simple volume adjustment. They supposedly allow volume adjustments from loud to low volumes without affecting the tone, and thats what he's talking about. Te mustang has no such thing and even the "power attenuator" on the katana does not do that. Its nthing more than a gimmick thats just a volume reduction switch. The only thing it accomplishes is to make the master volume's range less touchy. But like any volume control that is not a true power attenuation in the power section, if you reduce the volume tone changes. It does with the master, with the channel volume, with the EV5, or with any effect you add in the modeling like the EQ that has a level control. He;s looking for something that acts like a power soak that doesn't change tone from bedroom level to gig level and the mustang nor the katana or the old mustang cannot do that. You have to change tone settings when going from the bedroom to gig or visa versa or else the tone will change. In fact, what i found with modelers is that while ALL amps do that to some extent, with modelers i find the change is even more radical. ESPECIALLY the GT which i had to jump thru hoops with the get a good band volume tone. If i attempted to use the same patch i developed at home with the band it was unusably bad. By the way, i have a EV5 basically, a circuit i built from the pedal schematic. It just acts like a master, not what hels looking for.

This is what a 'real' attenuator does:
How do they work? Attenuators are placed between the output of the amp and the speaker. They replicate the ohm load of a speaker so the amp doesn't "know the difference". Most then use a coil to reduce the wattage by converting the excess wattage to heat. The reduced wattage that isn't converted to heat is then sent to the speaker.

Most decent attenuators aren't cheap (at least $100). So we're talking about adding a $100 feature to a $350 amp. Since they would have to raise the price, and not everyone would use the feature, they would probably sell less amps overall. And that's why you'll probably never see a real attenuator built-in to a Fender Mustang amp.
