When did the price drop on these amps? I happened to look today and my GT200 was down to $449 from $599, and the GT100 went from $399 to $349.

Now I'll get less for it on the used market if I don't like the forthcoming 2.0 software update. Makes me wonder if the retailers think that the 2.0 is a hardware change and they need to ditch their current inventory?

No, it;s a fender decision. They lowered the MSRP which means retailers must follow suit, as they generally have rules that thier retailers cannot advertise at lower than MSRP in order that thier dealers all have a fair chance. That doesn't mean they cannot sell for less, just not advertise for less. So fender lowering the MSRP is what UR seeing and why u see it everywhere. Why fender did that is anyone's guess. My guess is bad sales numbers due to all the bad publicity online.

Interesting. Considering Boss raised the price of the Katana maybe it's reverse psychology lol. I noticed the GT40 is still the same price. My gut says that's probably their biggest seller in the line so they keep that stable and dropped the price of the higher output amps in the hope that the 2.0 upgrade and lower cost breathes new life into sales.

I'm glad they did it.

I think u r right. The 40 seems to be the one people tend to be happy with, and i'm sure it's because they use it as a small low volume practice and recording amp which is what the GT DOES do quite well. It's when you turn them up and try and use them in a band environment where they start to sound shrill. But play the 100 or 200 low and they sound pretty good. But who buys a GT100/200 for low volume practice or recording only? They buy the 400 for that and so i think thats why i see far more people happy with 40's than the other 2. So no reason to drop the price which seems like more proof the price drop was due to sales.

Dude,
Seriously, that is your opinion. I play loud and do gig. That isn't MY experience at all. It may be true for you but it is NOT an absolute as you state it.
