More details coming ~Septemberish. The fact that folks like Rick are talking about things that aren't released yet while at NAMM isn't really that unusual - i.e., the same statement could be said of most of the instruments shown at the show as well.

I'm happily shocked the company is showing a pulse on Mustang Street.
September hints there is time to really nail connectivity and interaction
on at least one android-based tablet, even a Kindle. You could take a step up,
and have a few pallets of some such device preloaded and ready for sale.
Some leap-frogging of the competition is in order.
Hope you enjoy our Independance Day, safe and happy!
Cheers

Another item that caught my attention in the Sweetwater video was around the 30 second mark where Shane states: "This is the first time at Fender that I remember where we continued to do ongoing development with an existing platform" That statement is both refreshing, and sad at the same time. Hopefully it means Fender recognizes that they also have to be fully engaged in the software side of the business now, and the potential to improve existing product and get more life/more sales without the need for extensive R&D is actually a good thing :)

I find that statement odd considering that they DID release firmware updates for the v1 and v2 Mustang amps for quite some time after the initial release. And I mean there was...v1 and v2. Doesn't that indicate "ongoing development with an existing platform"?

Are they really referring to software, or did they mean to say firmware? That is kind of muddying the topic.

While both got firmware updates, neither got new features with those updates, only bug fixes. I had a Mustang III v1, pushed it a little too hard, and ended up buying a Mustang IV v2, which had amp models and effects the V1 couldn't handle, presumably due to hardware limitations.

After losing both amps due to a house fire, I ended up buying a GT200, and it's nice that the amp seems somewhat more future-proofed in terms of having the storage for more features, though to what extent the GT can be improved is sort of unknown to us.

It is clear, however, that the amp has more than just wifi and Bluetooth compared to V1 and v2, as the old amps only allowed one stomp, one mod, one delay, one reverb, compared to the GT, where you can run 6 big muffs if you want.

Well if nothing else, this is not a firmware update or a bug fix:

They also went with a different power amplifier for MIII+. That's a difference in the hardware, not firmware.

mmmhhh ... so we have to wait for September to have a satisfactory feedkback and see unveiled the "mystery" of the various improvements on the new firmware update 2.0 .. those videos seem a bit too short. However always better than nothing ...

I gig with my GT200 on a regular basis and like what I get out of it. Looking forward to the updates, just wish it was arriving sooner since I have one more gig in July and a few in August.

Anymore news?
Moved to a Spider V and was going to put the GT up for sale tomorrow but maybe worth keeping for awhile if these rumours are true.
Main gripes are the lack of decent dirty tones and woeful app. Line 6 is so intuitive and graphically superior that it’s a pleasure to create tones with not a chore like it is with the GT

Given that official Fender spokesman (Rick Heins and Brad Traweek) have said this is real, and Brad says more details around September, and user Riffy is beta testing...I think this qualifies as a lot more solid than “rumours”.

+ 1 on the Line 6 app. I had an Amplifi 30 and that set the bar for BT amp apps IMO, and that was from 2014/15! Leaps and bounds better than the Fender and Marshall apps.

I haven't seen much about any updates to the app in GT 2.0, but the videos linked in this thread speak to some of the higher gain options upcoming.

I agree about the Line6 apps, both the Amplifi and the Helix apps are lessons on how such apps should be done. I told the guys at Fender to have a look at the LIne6 apps in comparison to their own. No comment!

I still have an older Spider 3, which was okay in its day but my GT-100 knocks spots off it for tone and I still prefer my GT-100 to my Katana 100. I have several tube amps gathering dust.
