I suppose firmware tweaks regarding tone COULD help. After all, look at the higher end stuff where they use FR systems instead of guitar cab/speaker. If they can make thos to sound right thru FR, i see no reason the GT's firmware couldn't be tweaked to sound better thru the current cab/speaker. I tend to think fender didn't so much compromise with hardware as having not done enough in matching the modeling to the cab/speaker/pwr amp. Of course this is all subjective but after a year with the GT those are my conclusions. The potential is there if fender chooses to do whatever they have to to make it happen. And while some think the amp is great as is, the vast majority of opinions on the internet would have it way way behind the VERY popular katana series. So it's not just me that thinks it needs work. I think without a doubt whatever success the GT has had is in large part due to kids who bought it and are too inexperienced to be as critical of it as many others who ARE experienced and would use it even for live use.

Oczad,
in fact, I didn't mean that GT series seems to me as perfect as it is : the facts and a lot users unsatisfied are giving us a clear message.
I meant that I believe that if they want, with good will they have all the tools and resources to make all those big improvements expected. Right because are based on an hi-fi amplification system, they should be able to make sound the speaker virtually in any way, lo-fi, hi-fi or a mid way between them. Returning to example of the Bose model 901, without the dedicated active equalizer it would sound wrong and probably ugly.

There’s a lot of good insights in these posts. It was time for me to upgrade from my old Mustang II, so I did a lot of research and amp testing. I liked the ability to customize the sounds with the modelling amps, but I decided rather than go for the tube-like sound in the solid-state models, I went to the tube sound in the 65 Deluxe Reverb (reissue). Like Thedman says in an earlier post (his is a 68 reissue), it sounds fantastic, easy to use, and did I mention sounds fantastic.

The sound I’m looking for.

Same here. Restored a '69 Super Reverb I had in my basement. I've got a decent collection of stomp boxes to replace some of the functionality the Mustang had. With the proper pedals, it goes from Stevie Ray Vaughan to Eddie Van Halen. The Mustang is just a backup now.

My GT has gone also, replaced with a Spider V 60.
Better sound and the app is fantastic. Been enjoying making new tones with the graphical interface.
Sorry Fender but you really messed up with the GT. yes it’s Bluetooth (that actually works now) but you should have launched with a 'Fuse' type app.
Also the 40 lacks presence due to small speakers.

is the gt200 worth getting now? with ver2?????
speakers seem cheap and build seems cheap to me even compared to the older mustangs. I still use a cybertwin se combo/line6 mk2 spidervalve 2-12 combo and vox ad120vtx combo that sounded better then the mustang ver 1/2 i used to have and sold.

I think it's at least worth a try. Return it if you don't like it, or just check it out at a store. It definitely has a different sound than the older mustangs.

Not sure if it will get you where you want to go but it's worth checking out IMO. They just gave the ability to make backups of all presets. Now it's something worth looking at.

As of today, I am not sure how the amps in the stores will react. I would doubt they have been updated. Maybe you could update one IN the store and see if that will work for you. Download the app to your phone and have it ready to go when you walk in.

The point, on my opinion, is :
first, if they have improved the basement , the overall response and tone of the amp by equalization and other.
And then if they have, in case, retouched / improved precedent amp models but, if i remember correctly , the problems claimed wasn't about the singles models but an unsatisfying and disappointing overall tone and feel compared to the Roland Boss digital amps and to the precedent Mustang serie V2.

At that point all the rest (new models and new features) would become enjoyable and satisfying if there is a correct compensation to an optimal response of the power amp and speaker.

I would like really to know the impressions of the users that still have a GT amp; i would be interested to a GT100 but i rely on the important improvements that the version 2.0 should have brought following the complaints of many unsatisfied musicians.

It seems like users mostly stated there was a quality loss specifically at high volumes. There was some talk about swapping out the stock speaker(s) for better response, just as many people did with the v1 and v2 Mustang amps for the same reason.

I think there are still a few glaring omissions that Fender doesn't seem to want to compromise on. And everything points back to Fender not wanting you to use another brand of anything with this amp. No 3rd party controller pedals (proprietary tech). No 3rd party speaker cabinets (notice there is no "head" version of Mustang GT). That was not an accident.

Here is Shane's review from over a year ago. He did this review with the amp at "gig volume".

Here is my wonder. Sure fender must have improved some things in ver 2 update of course. They had to because when i tried it in person it was crap. They cheaped on the speakers big time it seems and the power amp which are 2 huge pieces in the amp. The build looked and felt cheap as well even compared to the mustang and older cybertwin se.

The software is all thats really left to mess with without re doing the whole amp. I wouldnt doubt if fender will release a new iteration of "their" modeling amp within a year so why buy the gt?????
If my old valvetronix ad120vtx and cybertwin se 2-12 combos can smoke the gt(i put them all against eachother at home for 2 weeks) I just cant see a point in thinking the gt is now some new amazing amp.

I bought my GT100 in June, 2017, and after reading speaker comments primarily by OZCAD (fenderforlife on some forums), I installed a Warehouse ET90 within the first month of getting the amp. Rather than use any of the presets, I built my own models based on Twin Reverb, 59 Bassman and 60's British amps. I've played it at small gigs, jams, and band rehearsals and have gotten consistently great tones. I updated to 2.0 and have enjoyed the new presets and will probably use some of them as the base for new tones.

I am at the origin of this topic.

Finally as I saw that a major update of the firmware was announced, I waited before selling my Mustang GT-100.
And I did well ;-)

This update, even if it does not bring everything, meets some of my expectations. And most importantly, the amp, the footswitch and the pedal expression make a very consistent and functional set.

I was not originally interested in the new amp models, but:
the Dual Show is now the base for my amp with the Mystic (Klon Centaur) in overdrive. This modeling is very close to my 1995 Fender Blues Deluxe.
the acoustic amp is great. No need for an external pre-amp, my resonator now goes directly into the amp
the studio tube amp is just great: the sound of A Fool for Your Stockings or Blue Jeans Blues
In short, the reliability is there and the more important features too. Even if not always 100% of what I expected. For example, there are more possibilities to assign effects to footswitch buttons but not yet full freedom. Another example, we can save in the cloud but not on his PC. Always missing software for Windows (or Mac) and not this smartphone app.
But hey, we have made good progress.

It remains to use it live to have the final test.

Thank you Fender for this update

i will wait for the next iteration from fender- i went and played the new update on a gt200 and was not impressed compared to what i use now-it was like a toy to me and while there were some decent amp tones in the fender realm there were just too few to justify spending $$ plus resale is crap on these so pass.
