Your competitors are already on board. The GTs and earlier Mustangs
would really race, kick, and buck, if you're willing to partner with Nektar.

That actually looks really interesting. No Mustang models support MIDI though, right? Maybe for the next generation (as was requested almost 5 years ago HERE).

But alas, 2 models of this amp later, still no MIDI. It's almost like they don't want you buying a controller pedal from anyone other than Fender.

None have midi stock, but the old mustang V1/2 line can be used with midi thanks to someone who figured out how with the USB jack and some sort of implementation he came up with. Funny thing is, thats a amp with lots of switching options with the stock 2 button and optional 4 button switches used together, so it needs midi the least.

I saw that rig. It's too messy. If he could come up with a neat implementation of that idea and price it reasonably maybe, but what I saw in that video did not look workable. I'm just impressed he got it to work at all.

Someone high up at Fender seems to embrace the view
that the customer and product userbase have
little value after the purchase cash has changed hands,
and a few in the userbase group have resorted to
reverse engineering to bring out desired capabilities
in the hardware or in software, that Fender choose not to.

The Plug software for linux allows full control
of the Mustang I V1 in linux, and some midi tech
was unearthed in another project. Lots of work
in either case. That an array of fine hardware controllers
are on the market, that to common knowledge, all lack
direct Fender support, goes a long way to underline
how satisfied and powerful the beancounter(s) are with sales of
comparatively flawed and limited products, as competitors
surge ahead on all fronts.

My first amp was a 1970 Twin Reverb, and I own/use two Mustangs today,
with some decades of brand loyalty in between. The missed opportunities
that orbit Fender will either turn real fans into fanbois, or further entrench
savvy competitors as both the more solid choice, and as leaders on
the industries cutting edge.

Fenders modeling department have become the sports team always content
to play .500 ball, win some home games, sell concessions and swag,
and never spend what it takes to reach the post-season, 'Moneyball',
or otherwise. The coders have proved inept, the marketing borderline criminal,
the management complacent, and a forum that should be burgeoning,
rarely has multiple visitors.

The football analogy is perfect. I wouldn’t call their programmers inept, but it just seems like if the product covers the amount of sales they forcasted, everyone’s happy. Doesn’t matter if it could be a better product or if customers are choosing other brands because they aren’t happy with what Fender is putting out. As long as the bottom line is covered.

To be fair, they have released firmware updates for all of the Mustang amps to make them better after sale. But.... it’s just not enough effort to make me want to buy the new model anymore.

I started out thinking the fender gt100 would be great for me, but thought it was a little over priced for me... I watched it for a long time, while trying the katona for the better part of a day and not being impressed. I am an old fart, still jamming sometimes and looking for a light, but jam-able amp. I wanted a extremely clean fender sound. And to be fair, I am still a computer nerd sort of guy. That being said, I think you do get a lot for the money, in the gt100. I can also see a good musician, not wanting to spend a lot of time learning to program something he/she can not even backup or have to wait for the next update to fix a problem. I think the very earliest computers were at least able to do backups. I also find this forum to be extremely slow at updating new users. I applied several days ago and have not seen my posts or herd from fender. I do however think that since the first mustangs came out, a lot of time has passed, fender will want to keep up with the times (being the first wi-fi amp & such), will need to invest more into our gt series amps. Mean while, waiting for a working android app, this amp does do what I most needed it to do, it's light, offers a good clean, plus can download sound patches. I am still impressed with it and hope they can fix it so it really does all they say it can do while marketing it. PS: and update this forum...

There is value in just the basic audio interface, and it's Preamp unit,
it sounds great used with high quality vst plugins, played it that way for
hours, yesterday. Native Instruments have a free version of
Guitar Rig 5 that has a host of effects presented in a vertical rack gui,
drag & drop, so easy to mix and match a chain. The full version demo
has even more, but must be re-started every 30 minutes, but easy
to determine if you'll be a buyer.

Bluecat have a great full featured guitar app called Destructor,,
it's demo occasionally fades out the volume of the software output,
but it's quite enjoyable to use, and is the best sound I've heard
from a software solution, topping Helix, Amplitube, Revalver,
Mercurial etc, all of which are excellent enough to be very popular.
Welcome to the forum, and let's hope things are better a year from now!
