Seems like this makes the amp punchier and just better overall, but i'd like to see if anyone else thinks so. I have seen others say if you set the master on 10 and use the preset volume to set your level it sounds better, but i didn't find that worked for me. But what i tried and it seems to work is i added the GE7 EQ at the very end of the chain and set it's gain all the way up to +12. Then lower the preset's volume to wherever i gets me the same level as it was before. And since the EQ is on and being used you may as well use it if necassary to tame any top end thats excessive at higher volumes.

Anyways, i tried this with a couple different patches i made, one being a bassman and the other the 65 deluxe and it improved the punch in both, especially in the low end. Works whether or not you use any of the bands in the EQ or not. Just used as a post amp gain booster seems to sound great. Really gives the tone some power, and when i compare it to the patches i was using before with this tweak, they sound anemic by comparison. How this will work in a band context at stage volume remains to be seen but i did turn it up for a few seconds and it sounded good. Give it a shot and tell me if it worked the same for you.

I've been thinking about getting an EQ pedal and putting it in the effects loop of my GT100. The new EQs are great it's just super inconvenient to have to take up an entire effects slot like that for something I would apply to just about every patch.

Anyone else tried this?

I have done that with my old MIII mustang but no need with this one. What i'm suggesting here is very different. I'm talking about using the EQ not as a EQ, but as a gain booster POST amp at the very end of the chain. By using the gain setting on any of the 3 EQ's to boost the gain at that point it changes the amp's character to have that kind of punch you feel. It give the amp a stronger feel, and this is without adjusting any of the EQ bands. The fact i'm using a EQ is just incidental. If there was a simple volume boost at that point it would do the same. But as i said above, as long as you have the EQ active you may as well also adjust any bands that might help IF you want. But the main point is what that volume boost does to the tone at that point in the amp rather then using the preset's master to achieve the volume you need. If you use a ton of effects i can see your point about taking up space, but otherwise thats not going to be an issue for most people. I have 4 effects in every patch (only one of them in use the majority of the time) and this doesn't present a problem.
