seems like this has been by far the biggest stretch without info on upcoming firmware updates or any updates at all. Anyone heard of anything coming out soon? new features?.....something?

No, and I object to all these Fender Play banners. Do they not know their audience?

First I have to dismiss a popup, then I get to see two of the same ad fitted on one screen,
and I've got a smallish monitor, so I might be missing out on a third one.

If someone is bent on running poorly targetted ads, at least place them out
of the main field of view, so a few loyalist people can read the forum text
in the middle, without a blatant distraction.

I think a male enhancement ad might be next,
but will any of them still show up to see it?

Looks to me like the Fender Play concept has bombed because YouTube has it all for free. Somebody is struggling to milk it for a few more takers – but why here? Owners of expensive amplifiers will hardly be in the market for guitar lessons!

Well, I think especially the GT series is targeted at beginners. It's
'dial-a-tone' approach helps people starting to learn guitar get good sound out of it without deep knowledge. The GT 40 costs about 200€ here which is okay for beginners. Pack a 135€ Squier Bullet Strat on top of that and you are good to go for the price of a PlayStation 4.

The market for amateur players is far larger than the one for the professional players. So I think it is smart for Fender to cater both world. Plus, every pro once was an amateur.

YouTube has indeed a lot of free content. But it is not structured so most people will get lost. I had a look at Fender Play and it seems that it has quite good content an clear learning paths. The only thing is the price tag: $19,99 per month is a little high compared to other well-designed courses. With a $9,99 price tag, Fender would attract far more business.
Or: Pack a Bullet Strat, GT40 and a year of Fender Play in one package for $399. And boom, you've got the ultimate beginner package.

I'm guessing you never tried programming a digital amp. It's not "dial a tone". The built-in presets are just to give an idea of what the amp can do. But I don't know anyone who bought a Mustang amp and relied entirely on factory presets. Your average SS or Tube amp does not have cabinet simulations, integrated effects, USB output, a pedalboard that can change between different sounds and the ability to control pretty much any parameter using an expression pedal.

Also, the Fender play popup is there no matter what part of the forum you visit.
