Hi,

I'm new to the GT40 and trying to figure out if it's possible for the amp to drop from E standard to Eb without re-tuning the guitar. I switch back and forth and would be nice to have a quick and easy way using an amp effect. I know there are pedals that do this. I see there's a pitch shifter effect in the amp but doesn't seem to have the desired affect as it adds a tone to the signal, but doesn't modify the tone itself. If anyone has found a way to do this with the GT I'd love to know how you did it. Otherwise, I'll check out pedals.

Thanks,

Intenost

Yes! The Pitch Shifter effect works amazingly well. To my ears, it sounds as good as the DigiTech Detune pedal (you might need to boost your highs a little if tuning down).

Just make sure the "wet" or effect level on the pitch shifter is all the way up (so you don't get any of the original guitar signal). At the moment I'm not sure the exact terminology of the settings on the amp but I can look when I get home if you're having trouble dialing it in.

I use it all the time to detune a whole step (or more) without retuning my guitar. I'm super impressed with the sound and lack of latency.

Hey thanks! I wasn't familiar with the concept of the "wet" level, but now that I understand what it means I will dial it up and see how it works out. Sounds like that will do the trick! Exactly what I'm looking for, to eliminate the original guitar signal.

Hi Keith,

Looks like Mix = Wet. I've got the basics figured out but lost on pitch, which defaults to 1200. If I want to go down one semitone, any idea what I need to change it to?

Thx again

I'm not near my amp right now but I think you'll want to set it for -100 to go down one half step. I have mine set to -200 to go down a full step so I think that would logically work.

To be fair, it's a bit of a pain to set the pitch this way but it does sound really good. Maybe we can put some pressure on Fender to make a pitch shifter that deals in tones/semitones?

Thanks! I'll try it when I'm home. Makes sense now that I think of it, 100 cents = semitone. It didn't occur to me that it was in cents, the default kinda threw me! Would definitely be easier to dial it up and down a semi-tone at a time.

Did you ever get this to work as desired? (After experimenting with the Chromatic Pitch Shifter and not getting exactly what I was looking for, I came to the forum to start a thread but I found your post first.)

I have the Chromatic Pitch Shifter as the first effect in my chain. The "mix" setting is all the way up and I have the pitch set to -100 in an attempt to achieve the sound of being tuned down a half step. Even with these settings though, I can still hear the original/actual pitch in addition to the shifted pitch. The original pitch is soft in volume but still there, particularly pronounced when playing higher pitched notes. For example, if I just play a scale, it sounds almost like what I expect on the lower notes but as I ascend to higher notes, the original/actual pitch cuts through even more.

Hmm, that's odd. Mine works exactly like you're looking for (where you can't hear the original tone). When I get home, I'll experiment to see if there's another setting I neglected to mention but the "wet" or effect level is at max.

I appreciate any feedback or advice you have. I double checked all my settings, but I'm still having the same result. I tried different amp models (my original preset was with the 65 Twin), and in some cases, that made a small difference. I also tried combining with an EQ effect and adjusting the treble. That too helped but I had to use extreme values that resulted in a balance and tone that is impractical.
