Has anyone experimented with external overdrive pedals? Personally i don't like the built in OD's and than i saw this (right into the intro the guy use a Greer Lightspeed Overdrive in front of the amp and it sounds just good to me).

I use my Horizon Devices Precision Drive pedal with my GT100 and it's fantastic. When I was amp shopping, I even took the pedal and my guitar with me to Guitar Center to make sure they both sounded great. The GT100 completely blew me away!

I wonder how it works with the Okko Diablo or Xotic Soul Driven overdrives...

I just bought a J. Rocket Blue Note and the result is ...very inconsistent :(
no drive at all, just mids & volume boost.. that's sad man.
tried with deluxe reverb & twin reverb, played with gain/volume/bias settings. no success.

I am using two OD pedals before the GT100: Fulltone OCD and Diezel VH4.

I had massive problems with the OCD since it produced a high frequency tone when turned on and using a 9V external power supply (it worked fine with battery). I tested it with two different GT100 with the same result.

But: Yesterday I found out that it highly depends on the kind of external power supply. I bought a power plant junior from Harley Benton and now the OCD is dead silent on the GT100.

So for me OD Pedals work fine together with the GT100, if I am using high quality power supply.

I only use 3 models so i can't comment on any of the other 20 something. But one of them i use is the 65 deluxe and it does NOT take pedals well at all. They cause what sounds like blocking distortion to various degrees depending n the settings. The other 2 i use are the bassman and 70s brit both of which take pedals just fine. There ARE a few others i have tried that do too but i never got into using them regularly. So i'd say YES to pedals at least for many of the models and NO to using them with the 65 deluxe and *possibly* some other models. But the only one i know doesn't is the 65 deluxe. I don't know what it is about that model, but i had the same issue with the 65 deluxe in my old mustang III V2, tho it was even worse in that one. It was unusable with a pedal, while in the GT it will work. Not well, but depending on the settings it can be usable.

This video makes a great point about how much the amp dictates WHICH pedals you use, not whether any specific amp "takes pedals well". Listen to how the Fulltone sounds through the Marshall amp vs. the Fender Twin. 2 great amps, but the Fulltone only sounds good through the Marshall. Then they tried a Boss Super Overdrive and it sounds great through the Fender Twin, but not the Marshall.

Changed the Blue Note with another J. Rocket pedal, the Flex Drive. More drive. Looked like the Blue Note is too subtle for the GT. The Flex Drive also sounds good as a clean booster.

I have a GT40 and I find that, like all amps I've owned, it likes some overdrive pedals, and doesn't like some overdrive pedals. And I use them mostly with the BF models, and have not experienced the problem of blocking distortion on the 65 Deluxe, but I have noticed that every pedal sounds a lot dirtier (with the same settings) with the DR model as compared to the BF Twin model. As with all amps and pedals, whether tube, SS, or modeling, you have to find the combination that works for you. But, I do prefer a real pedal in front of the amp over the virtual OD pedals built in.

There's no Fulltone pedal in this video. It's an EH Big Muff!

Oops wrong pedal name but the point remains... the pedal that sounds great through one amp won’t necessarily sound great through a different amp.
