So as the title states, can anyone with extensive knowledge of EQs and the GT speaker tell me how they are setting their EQs to get a more authentic guitar tone? I know most newb like myself want to boost everything right away but now ive basically cut everything way down except mids its had a great result, I cut the lows way down and highs and kept mids right about where they start maybe take them down just a tad but I notice im doing more cutting them boosting. is this what most of you are doing to get a better tone? Just curious to hear how others have used the Eqs cause they have helped the GT the most out of any other tool onboard this amp that's for sure.

If all depends on what sounds good to your ears, really. There is no hard and fast rule, other than scooped mids , and increased highs and lows brings out more of the heavy metal sound, which in my opinion gets lost once the bass and drums kick in. The “old guy” sound is with the eq flat, and the mids boosted, for that pure blues sound. hope this helps!

I guess I should've clarified what I am going for better. I play jam music, usually I only use the GT for trying to simulate vintage clean fender tones, ones that can sound almost as good as the fender tube combo amps like the hot rods, blues jrs and so forth. I am pretty happy with the results I have had the GT since it debuted cause I had the III forever and loved it so I figured the GT would be the Mecca. Finally just as recent as the last update, I think Fender has finally gotten the amp where its manageable. As mentioned I use it for cleans, light distortion "not a huge fan for digital distortion", and FX pedals I think the GT does great at the Modulation pedals. But with the EQs I personally cut everything, mainly the lows way down to almost the bottom, and the highs, I took mids down just a tad but the highs and lows I cut dramatically. I think since this speaker was halfway geared toward being a home stereo speaker for streaming music, its lows were way to high that where the muddiness came into play when you played your guitar loud and it lost its punch the louder you got but put on a song with heavy bass the speaker sounds great. lol so awkward. I boost the gain on the Eq to make up for the lost volume and use the compressor to help balance things out an also again raise the volume. It sounds better, but I just wanted to see how other were using their EQs to chase that vintage clean tone. I have a tonebone ABY and I use the orange crush 35rt to help the GTs overall sound the Y channel sounds great with both signals matching it makes things a lot better. But I wanted to know if people are finding success boosting anything vs cutting with the stock speaker. Its all about tweeking that speaker to sound more like a vintage guitar speaker. I am still stuck on swapping speakers and dumping cash into this amp vs selling it and getting a tubed blues jr nos or something. I love the FX though of the GT and the cleans can be dialed in pretty nicely. A speaker swap maybe the thing I need that makes me love the amp an want to keep using it for live gigs. That's the thing, I don't know many people using the GT for live gigs so im hoping to find more guitarists that are trusting the amp on stage and what they are doing to make the amp sound better to keep up with the other more popular bar gigging amps you see.

The gigging musicians and guitarists still turn their noses up at digital, and I realize that the Gt will not sound better then a tubed amp. But I just been figuring it gets so close, and with the extra perks of all the onboard pedals its a tough trade off. Plus low maintenance not having to deal with tubes, light weight, headphones, great for practicing jam tracks. I just worry about it live being able keep up with the other amps out there. But I will say it isn't nearly as bad a amp as the reviews say, atleast now its not with the last update.
