Hi folks,

When I record audio from my GT40 into my laptop I get a little bit of a crackling noise. This doesn't happen when I listen to the output of the amp through the headphone jack (same headphones & amp settings).

I have tried:
Changing the recording buffer size in my DAW to the max.
Recording directly into QuickTime Player, with the DAW closed.
Changing USB cables from the cheap one I was using to a nice one.
None of these things have had an effect. To my ear it doesn't sound like clipping, as it doesn't sound very harsh and it doesn't seem related to the volume of what I'm playing. My instinct is that it's a clock sync issue but I checked Mac OS's Audio Midi Setup app and it doesn't give any clock sync options to toggle.

I'd love it if anyone here could let me know if they've heard this themselves, and what they did about it.

Good Morning,

Yes I've had this and like you tried changing swapping around all the different parts of the recording process. I thought my culprit was my in built soundcard so now go through an external one and can get very clean recordings. I also use a noise gate with any FX although I also keep my recording levels quite high. When I started off I was recording too low and turning up the levels in my DAW emphasised the noise.

I dont have a definitive answer I'm afraid, also tried unplugging my laptop in case it was a grounding issue. Hope this helps.

I've heard a crackle or clicking type noise when using the USB out to my iPad. Now I use a 3.5mm to 1/4" cord from the headphone jack to my interface, and it works so much better. The latency with these amps was very high, and this method I can set it how I like in my Auria Pro DAW.

I've also heard crackling in my headphones. I think the signal coming out through both the USB and headphone jack can be very high when the master knob is turned up. This may be your problem as well.

Wi-fi, bluetooth, cooling fans, power management, and cpu scaling
can interefere with noisefree recording. Having them all off
when recording should help. Make sure all your audio gizmo hz and bitrate
settings are identical, so chips don't have to calculate between 48,000 and 44,100,
16 and 24 etc. Blackviper hosts detailed lists of OS services that can be limited or
turned off, to further the cpu's quest for uninterupted audio recordings.
Cheers

I Am just now laying down demo tracks again for the my band to send back an forth throughout the week, I’ll usually write a riff throw a drum loop make a basic basslien An send it to the band as a wav file so they can jam to it with good audio quality and play through their phones if need be, pretty handy way of writing with the band if your band can’t rehearse as mch as you want.... I literally just recorded a demo riff just playing around to see how it sounded... I didn’t hear any crackling, a DI box sounds like it fixes most issues like these and latency problems, also wires an the daw itself could be problem.... you might have something turned up to high I notice this usb gain little setting on the GT I’m still trying know figure out what’s that is but maybe mess with that.... I’m using a cheap usb chord and going Straight into my laptop an I got no issues as of yet.... I’ll get back to ya when I get some real time in... but I woulda guess either chord, or daw, maybe laptop, I don’t get crystal clear recording like I would if I had a Scarlett or something but it does enough for me for now.... you might want to mess with the sample rate to that plays a pretty big factor depending on your cpu system

I am also experiencing this problem on my mac.
I have had my GT200 for over a year but this crackling sound is a new problem in the last month.
Did anyone find a solution?
I have tried reducing the usb output volume, replaced the usb cable, tried all usb ports.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

I just signed up because I recently got a 100 model and am having the same issues. Just updated the firmware to the latest version today but issue persists. I'm on a MacBook Pro recording into Logic Pro X and everything is up to date. Turned USB volume down, turned WiFi and BT off on both the amp and the Mac which seems silly to me. Also, sometimes I only hear static noise, no guitar. Tried multiple cables and I don't know what to try next. Just sent of a message to support, hoping to get a reply.
