I've had the GT 40 a little more than three weeks. Twice now I have experienced a volume jump. It seems that the preset volume is lower than the volume knob, and suddenly the actual volume jumps up to the level on the volume knob, without my touching it.

1. Are others experiencing this?
2. Is there some place we can report it?
3. Should I exchange my unit?

You might want to go to the menu button and find "footswitch" then "EXP1" and go into the global setting and set both toe and heel settings to 10, then go into the preset settings and set vol to off and exp to off. Then turn the toe and heel settings there to 10 also. Now hit save and you're done.

Theres a lot of bugs in the EXP1 expression/volume pedal settings and even if you don't have one it could be glitching. So turning all that off and setting the levels all to 10 might fix it. Worth a shot.

Thank you for suggesting this.

I don't remember which patch I was playing the first time I heard a volume jump -- it was in the first couple of days that I had the amp -- but when I heard the jumps a couple weeks ago, I was playing the "LeadCommunication" preset both times. This preset includes a bypassed wah pedal. Maybe it's a coincidence, but when I stopped using that preset I stopped getting volume jumps. It's been two weeks now.

I wish there were a way to describe these problems to someone at Fender who is actually involved with improving the product.

It seems I spoke too soon. I noticed another jump the very next day; seems to occur close to the end of the volume knob's travel. I could actually see the volume jump up a second after I switched to the patch. Backing off the volume knob a bit seemed to fix that.

If you are playing a different patch make sure the settings i mentioned in the EXP1 preset settings are like i described. Those settings are per preset so if it fixed it then started again but you're using a different preset, that may be why. If by chance what i said IS the reason, then unfortunately you'd have to do this for every preset you use.

Since upgrading to firmware version 1.4.19, I have experienced this issue several times. Has anyone found a solution? (I haven't upgraded to 1.4.21 yet but I will do that tonight.)

I have a GT 40 but no pedal or footswitch. Last night, I happened to be looking down at my amp when it happened. The digital gain dial jumped from about 20% of max to 100% without me even touching the amp. (I also didn't have any devices connected to the amp via bluetooth.)

I was on a custom preset that just consisted of the compressor, the 65 Twin, and Spring Reverb. After the gain maxed out automatically, I changed to another preset and then came back to the preset I was on. The gain dial returned to my saved position but the volume/sound still didn't sound right (though not as loud as it was when the jump occurred). I turned my amp off and back on and then it sounded right again.
