That's what they said when the first Telecaster appeared!

How much would it cost to replace the grill cloth with regular Fender silver, replace the knobs with Fender amp knobs and add chrome corner protectors? Then, you could also put in a Jensen speaker and the tilt-back legs. And why not pull out the chassis when you are at it and replace it with an all tube one. Buffalo horns and rhinestones are optional ;?)

Indeed, beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

I'm one of those odd people who for some reason don't much care as long as it sounds great. Stupid, i know. But if if i had to tell, i kinda like it aside from the grill which is not what i'd have done if it were up to me. A fender silver cloth IMO would have looked better and the current black not only doesn't look as good but the material itself is a type that i don't recognize as any common grill material i have ever seen on a guitar amp. Looks more like material i've seen on stereo playback speakers, and it looks like it will tatter and fray in time very easily.

Changing the grille cloth is trivial. Fender silver/white/black cloth is £28.00 per yard, probably less in the USA. The baffle is held in with a few screws from the back. It would void your warranty though. I do like the simple, clean design that doesn't behold to earlier models but i can't for the World understand why Fender use a different logo altogether on their BassBreaker range. Having two corporate logos is just plain nuts!

They look very much like Bluetooth speakers, and I think that's at least partially intentional, making it clear that it's a Bluetooth speaker as much as an amp.
The lack of corners, Tolex, replaceable grill cloth and other ruggedization signals that they're intended for home use, not gigging. Which is probably also intentional.
Whether someone likes the looks or not is all personal preference, and I can't fault anyone for how much they like or dislike it. But I'm fairly certain the design is deliberate, as much as it was for this great hit:

I never heard anyone call the MIIIV2 a amp that wasn't made for gigging because of the fact it too has no corners. The grille is also impossible to replace. Ever tried on a MIII? I have. Tried to replace the baffle board and you pretty much have to destroy the amp to do that or replace the grille. No tolex? And who cares if it looks different than tolex, it's just as durable and cosmetically more so because it doesn't scratch as easy. Why is a different material render it non giggable? Look at the old fenders that have torn up tweed or tolex from gigging them. Were they not giggable because the TOLEX didn't withstand it? Do they no longer make sound because the covering is tattered? Should people no longer gig them? Remember, i own both so i might be a bit more aware of the differences than you. A lot of people gigged the MIII and still do.

Guitars have no corners and are far more fragile. Most people who gig and play guitar bring a guitar with them, no? The GT is perfectly giggable and it's laughable to say it isn't because of reasons that have little to no bearing on the point.

The idea behind soft thick tolex and tweed is much the same as wearing protective clothing. The outside takes damage so the fragile inside won't. Sure, the outside gets scratches.

But if you want another indicator that Fender never meant for it to be a gigging amp, look at the warranty. Or buttons that aren't grouped and can't be distinguished in the dark. Or a blinking tap.

Fender gigging amps are a bit more expensive. Maybe they should have badged them 'Squire Mustang GTs' because that is closer to the reality.

Well, then i guess i'm just special because i can easily gig with the GT and theres nothing that it can't do that i need. Things i WISH it would do? yeah, but i gigged single channel tube amps for decades with a single sound that i varied with the guitar and a boost pedal. So with the GT even as restricted as it may be due to the layout, it's far more than i need as is. And i'm not going to be able to destroy a ply cab thats finger jointed AND reinforced all the way around it. Maybe you just haven't had enough experience playing out, but i know what works for me and maybe YOU can't gig the GT, but i sure as hell can. I think after a zillion gigs since the late 70's i know what will or won't work for me. I have no idea what you're even talking about. Makes zero sense to me.

To each his own as they say. I think these look pretty cool, personally. :-)

Hey there oczad. You may or may not have already done so... so forgive me if I didn't see it already. But if you haven't, would you be willing to get some live video/audio the next time you gig the GT and post it on here or Youtube for us (if that isn't too much trouble)? I know it's probably asking a lot, but I haven't seen any examples of this thing gigged live yet so it could be a huge service to those of us who are curious how it sounds in a gig setting. It might be just the thing to convert some of those/us who have been holding out. I would love to see some live gig footage if you could swing that for us. Thanks! That would be awesome!
