It didn't occur to me until I sat down last night to start re-creating the 20 or so presets that were lost when I did the restore to the GT 100, but those presets and their settings are all still intact in the Tone app on my iPhone. So I turned off Bluetooth to make sure the app and the amp don't have a chance to sync, then began entering each preset directly into the amp using the settings displayed in the Tone app. This is still a pain in the backside, but much better than having to figure out all the settings again from scratch.

Were it possible to choose the direction of the sync, you wouldn't have to do this. I have made a request for a manual, directional sync facility.

Directional sync... Not a bad idea.

Speaking of sync...
I re-created all the needed 20 or so presets, reading the settings for each preset from my Tone app and entering them directly into the GT 100 amp. Of course, then, the preset list on my amp and the preset list in the Tone app did not agree. So I re-enabled Bluetooth on my iPhone (where the app resides) and let it and the amp link up, thinking that the amp would sync with the Tone app and the preset list in the Tone app would change to agree with the list in the GT 100 amp. Well, that ain't happening. I called Support, who told me that really the only way to handle that problem is to delete the Tone app and re-install it. So that's the next step, which I'll take after work today. Film at 11:00.

Re-installing the Tone app didn't work. The GT 100 and Tone will communicate; I can choose a factory preset in Tone and the GT will go there, but all the presets above #26 or so don't match up, and NONE of the presets I've programmed into the GT show up in Tone. Also, I keep getting a "limited functionality" message when I try to do some things in Tone. And the two devices never sync. It's like Tone doesn't think the latest firmware is installed in the GT - even though the GT says it is.
Called Fender late yesterday afternoon. The guy couldn't help me, though he knew someone who could, who was gone for the day. I'm supposed to get a call today.
Going to try to see this through & get it all straightened out. But if this amp ever freezes again, I feel like I'll be well and truly done with the GT.

No call yet after 24 hrs, so I called. They say the problem has been turned over to the "digital team" and I'll get a call as soon as they've got it figured out.
Hm.

Spoke with Fender last night. Ended up having to do a WiFi Update/Restore All. This fixed the problem completely and Tone and the GT 100 are speaking to each other again. Those 20 presets are gone forever, though.
The theory is that, when I previously did the Restore, and then when the amp had to bring itself back to firmware 1.2.25, the update didn't get done 100% for reasons unknown.
As for the original freeze-up, no explanation for that. The guy I dealt with told me he hasn't encountered that before, but, he said, that didn't mean that some of the other support personnel might not have run into it.
He also confirmed they are adding a preset backup capability among other things.
For my part, I'm glad to have a fully functioning system again, but if I encounter another freeze-up like this one, I'm going to ask Fender to take back the GT 100.

Can't you upload your custom presets to the cloud as a backup?

And share with everyone? I guess so. I assumed that most people wouldn't be interested in the presets that I had created, so that way of backing up didn't occur to me. But it would have saved me some time had I done that to begin with. I might do that with this latest batch.
On the upside, I'm getting a lot of practice creating presets.

Well maybe a small cloud backup partition that's copy protected could be a service Fender could provide?

May as well, right? -jg

One of the Fender support guys told me they were working on a preset backup system that, as I understood it, would be separate from the sharing function. So, yeah, maybe it's on the way -jg

You can upload your presets to cloud and then pull them back down again.
