My headphone jack is hopelessly broken. I have a new jack and I am very good at PC board soldering. What I am not good at is removing the amp head from the cabinet in order to repair it.

Anybody know how to correctly disassemble the GT 40?

I replaced the headphone jack successfully without too much trouble. Disassembly was easy. de-soldering the broken jack was a little difficult because my soldering iron wasn't hot enough but a little patience did the trick.

GT 40 is back in play!

Most of the time low cost soldering iron are hot enough but the heat transfer is very bad .
Or people do not know how to soldering.

Yes, I understand that! I misplaced my good soldering iron and was forced to use a old one that I never liked... because it didn't have much in the heat transfer department. Patience did the trick though.

I am retired from HP and Digital Equipment, where we did a good amount of component level repairs. This amp is just a little bit more state of the art than the PC boards I worked with, but certainly not impossible to repair.
