Hi, my name is Frank and I bought a new GT 100 a week ago.

After starting it for the first time I tried to play some backing tracks via my iPhone.
What happened quite scared me and my neighbours. The backing track was roaring out so loud that I was worried about my hearing. I instinctively reached for the volume knob but no effect. I then the pulled the plug because I did not know what to do.

Later I found out, that the external audio volume (via Bluetooth or cable) cannot be changed at the amp itself!?
Is this a normal behaviour? I never had similar problems with other amplifying devices.

The exact opposite happens when I plug in my headphones. The volume is so low that it is more or less useless.

So I sit here with my brandnew GT 100 and wonder if I should sell it and buy another amp instead.
I hope - because it's a software driven device - that the a. m. problems can be solved via a firmware update.

Did you experience similar problems with the GT 100 or is it a failure of my amp only?

Thanks for your help.

Currently, the AUX input can only be controlled from the device plugged into it. There are requests to have the level controlled by the master volume. Whether this happens in this week's firmware update remains to be seen but in the meantime, turn down the volume of your phone/tablet. Works for me.

Hi Stratocaster1983 and thanks for your reply.

I found out that in the meantime but think that it is quite inconvenient at the moment.
This all the more because the iPhones system audio signals (e.g. clicking sounds) are echoed very loud via the GT 100 although the phones volume is set to the lowest possible position.

It would be a real enhancement if this could be solved via a firmware update.

Frank, there's a new firmware update undergoing final testing as we speak and which I'm understanding should be available this week. You're definitely going to want to wait a few days. :-)

Brad can only say so much about it, but i think the little smilie says it all. Besides, why would you return an amp just because of that? I mean, assuming you like the amp a lot. If you don't, and thats a sort of last straw i get that. But otherwise a bit less convenience hardly seems like a reason to return it. But in any case i'm pretty sure it will be done in the next few days. I cant wait to see the list of improvements. There are only a couple i want and one i already know it will contain. But i can't wait !!!! Tell em to hurry up Brad !

Just got the GT 200 4 days ago. I agree that the first time streaming from my iMac, I had to peal the cat off of the ceiling :D. I don't have an iPhone (or any smart phone), and for whatever reason, I couldn't get my iPad to work with Tone.

However, once I got that figured out, it was a piece o' cake. I LIKE that you can control what is streamed separate from the volume of the amp. I can play around with backing tracks at various volumes and the amp at various separate volumes.

Don't hurry! Been there, done that, and the T-shirt came out backwards.
Really, if you need another week, pulllleeeeaaaaassssssee, take it!
Or ten more days or 14. Whatever it takes for this release to work right
when it hits the chips.

And the same for the next one, and the one after that...
Cheers

Don't sell. Besides being an amp, it's a high quality usb
interface for recording. So it's also an interface to pro software amp-sims and effects.
It's also an interface to outboard hardware via the send/return ports.
And bargains on rack effects units are not rare.

Assuming your issues will be addressed, there is still a lot to offer,
and the on-amp interface is workable for creating new sounds.

And there will be improvements via firmware, and app updates,
and hopefully an editor for computer users.

I was trying out some little known freewares this weekend,
using the #21 Basic Studio Pre preset with the effects disabled,
for input, and was delighted with the result. It is easy enough
to tweak such a preset a little, for precise use with other ampsims,
and effects, but as a starting point, it's already pretty nice.
And your amp will be sounding better and better, as the speaker
get's a good workout.
Cheers

Thanks for your replies and I got it: I will NOT sell it because I like the amp itself. I like the sound and it goes really well with my Les Paul.
The reason I posted was because I choose this amp because of the WiFi and Bluetooth features and was a little bit disappointed about the poor implemantation.

I now hope that the software foundation of the amp will be the basis of improvements which I will get with a new firmware.

Thanks again for your help :-)

I think it's only fair (after complaining at first) to say thanks to the Fender developers.

The latest firmware update solved most of the problems I had with the amp at first.
And since I'm an iOS-user, also the tone-app works fine for me.

Of course there are still a few things that could be improved in the amp and in the app.
But after the last updates I am full of hope that these are handled with one of the following updates.

So thanks again to Fender. Keep on the good work, I am really happy with my amp now! :D

Wow so much positivity in this thread.
It's very refreshing and makes a change from the usual posts.
And no mention so far about that 'other' amp they all run off to buy. Hehe.
Quick Brad lock the thread so it remains positive!! LoL. :D

Hey, I resemble that remark. Wasn't being negative, just reporting what I was being told.
I am holding on and have hope that the next release will fix the problem. The GT is my amp of choice...if it works.
