I'm sending this in as a formal feature request, but I thought I would share it here as well.

------------

Hi Fender,

Thank you so much for all of your hard work to produce such a fine amp. I love everything about it.

One feature that I believe could further set it apart from other competitor's amps and make it even more of a performing workhorse would be: A more powerful looper. The looper seems to be lightly promoted, but with a few additions and greater availability of the new four-button footswitch, I think it could be a big selling point.

Here's some suggested enhancements:

1. TONE APP MANAGEMENT OR LOOPER MENU: This seems like a simple, but missing, menu item on the amp. Under this menu item would be the features I list below. Perhaps better, with more control and flexibility would be a Tone app section.

2. SAVE/RECALL/IMPORT LOOPS: The ability to save, delete, and recall loops. And, the ability to import loops from your phone via the Tone app (such as bringing in a short but still stereo-quality MP3 drum loop). Saving loops with good file names would be key for easy retrieval.

3. AUTO-START: The ability to have a loop start recording the moment the amp hears a signal or guitar strum/pick.

4. TIMED ENDINGS: The ability to choose a beat per minute and number of measures, so a loop would end at a predetermined time. This could work in conjunction with autostart and the metronome idea below. For example, I could choose 150 BPM with 12 bars. I'd end up with a perfectly timed loop, not subject to me clicking the stop button slightly early or late at the end of the loop.

5. NON-RECORDED METRONOME: A click track could help you stay on time as you are recording but could be turned off as needed to only hear the guitar signal.

6. MULTIPLE INPUT SOURCES: The ability for the looper to grab phrases from Bluetooth and Aux input. This would allow me to copy parts or all of a song from my phone/MP3 player.

7. MULTIPLE LOOPERS: The ability to have Loop A and Loop B, synchronized and working together. I.e., like a classic dual-looper footswitch. So Loop A could have the verse, and clicking the foot pedal could switch to Loop B for the chorus.

8. STEREO SIDE SELECTION: The ability to decide if your loop should go to the left side, right side, or middle/both. For example, I could record a rhythm guitar on both, then change the setting to the left side for my bass line, and then change the setting to the right side for my lead guitar. On the stereo models of this amp (GT40 and 200), you could hear the separation, and you would hear even more separation if you plug it into external monitors

Thanks so much for the consideration!

A lot of great ideas, I fully support them. And a first step would be the possibility to delete a recorded multi-track-loop without switching off the amp.

Great point above (delete loop). Add that to be list, along with another one I forgot: COUNT-IN (add a four click count in with the metronome and save/recall feature ideas).

Also, I'm going to video and post on YouTube something everyone might find interesting tonight: I've successfully run my phone into the guitar input of my GT 40, playing drum loops and then capturing them with the looper, then layering guitars. I'm able to build some seriously high-quality songs (But the feature requests here would make it all easier and better).

Look for Perfidia by the Ventures tonight.

I've been playing that since the early '60s. I even know the words!

FYI, I just started a new thread with my demo of running a drum loop into the guitar input of the amp, and then building a song from there. Worked like a charm!

It would be easier, savable, and better all around with the features I requested in this thread, but it still turned out pretty good nonetheless.

Excellent suggestions here for development and app integration.

Hey, saving / reloading loops is a great idea! I had not thought of that.

It would be awesome if loops could be added to the tone website. Download, upload, and rate loops/backing tracks. I'd buy a 4 button switch as a necessity, right now! I am seeing a switch as a niceity, that I really don't need.

This reminds me a little of the Line 6 Spider Jam amp with it's built in jam tracks, but this idea would so blow it out of the water.

Very good ideas, but my top request would be a REDO option.
After that several UNDO/REDO levels.
Best,

Agreed. I'm not sure if it is a bug, but the undo is basically unusable to me. I use it primarily while recording a loop and making mistake, hoping to abandon my current recorded loop. But I t seems to delete the loop before the one I'm recording. In other words, it not only stops recording but it erases the previous loop before what I'm doing live.

And, sometimes it deletes part of the loop but not all, and makes popping noises.

Yeah, they should fix that first, all my loops end with a pop.
And why not a visual feedback on looper state on the lcd?

Not sure if it can be changed in firmware but the loop length time is a bit mean. Maybe forgoing stereo would double the loop time or halving the bitrate to give a longer, lower quality loop.

Or the opposite, allow for half the loop but enable a redo, zoom's g3 has that option.
Having all that as an options would be great, stereo/mono/low-fi/redo loop lengths.
