I do not get the constant comparisons of GT40 and Katana 50. Other than price-point being close, the two amps have nothing in common and are designed for two different consumers... the Katana being a gigable/jammable limited feature 12" guitar speaker combo and the GT40 being a desktop, definitely non-gigable/jamable, full-featured modeler with 2 6.5" FR speakers specifically designed to produce quality Bluetooth audio as a feature in addition to use as a guitar input.

I am wondering why Katana 50 and 100 are not compared to Fender Champion 40 and 100? THAT is a much closer feature-to-feature purpose-to-purpose comparison.

Likewise, the GT40 obviously draws a more fair comparison to the Line 6 Amplifi 30, the (brand new) VOX Adio Air GT, The Yamaha THR and the Blackstar IDcore stereo mini amp in the 40 watt range.

I think the YouTubers that are slamming the GT40 and dramatically posting "reboxing" videos are putting it in matches with entirely different products just because it has a similar price tag. Its like doing a shootout between a sports car and a luxury sedan that both happen to cost $100k, but then only comparing the two based on track-performance with no mention of features or comforts! I certainly understand that some novice guitar players will buy the GT40 as their one-and-only bedroom amp - and it would be a perfectly fine choice - but most are buying this amp for its diminutive size and weight (lack thereof) to use as a end-table or desk practice amp and they already have other amps in the gigable/jamable category.

But I still think Fender ought to be posting a Fender store credit or at least sending out a free T-shirt or some other swag for those of us who bought in the first week and are putting out the patience waiting for them to fix firmware and phone interface. A free GT-4 pedal would be really nice for us 40 and 100 owners (especially since we can't even purchase one yet to try out our loopers!)

I agree that the GT40 to Katana 50 is apples and oranges, but there are also GT100 to Katana 100 comparisons out there that generally provide the same reviewer conclusions.

I fit in the catagory of "to use as a end-table or desk practice amp" and for recording. And like a lot of folks, I have to spend my money carefully and only have room/budget for one amp. I wanted the best bang for my buck within my budget. The GT40 was on the high side of what I was looking to spend but it sounded nice. I love the sound of this amp, no question. BUT, like many others I am growing impatient with the slow app development and I miss the ability to edit on the PC. The onboard interface is clunky for navigating/editing and patch selection by comparison. I can't blame Fender entirely for the BT and app issues as I see similar frustrations from Marshall Code users, but I can blame them for not bothering to create a desktop app when they knowingly put a product out there that wasn't even close to being functional for Android users.

I haven't had an opportunity to play through a Katana yet, but I am still within my return window so I plan on spending some time with one this weekend. At this point, I don't know if I am willing to keep something that isn't fully functional based on a promise that it will get better. I don't have the luxury of just picking up a different amp 6 months from now.

I compare the GT40 with the Katana 50 because I planned on using it in my bedroom studio. I had nothing but headaches with the GT 40 and the Katana has been wonderful plus it sounds waaaaay better.

I was even able to return the iPod I bought for the GT 40, which I don't need for the Katana, because I have my desktop for that.

'Fender' are people, with pride, and wallets to protect,
at the expense of their customers. If you criticize them accurately,
they become silent, rather than accountable. I'm lucky
that I didn't buy the GT40 for it's wireless doodah.

But for those who did, I suggest you consider it a warranty issue,
not limited by a 'return window'. In America, states attorneys general
frown on false advertising and consumer fraud, and product recalls
are quite common.

I have had two topics removed, critical of management,
without even a courtesy PM in explanation.
And was invited to have 'phone conversations',
rather than Fender people borrowing a spine,
and actually residing here,
partaking in a two-way public forum in support of
both their products AND customers...
Screeshots are your friend.

Cheers

I hate the idea of beating up on Fender as I have lots of their stuff which I like a lot. I have the Fender SFX acoustic pro amp, the Super Champ X2, the Telecaster the Squire Strat.... this is why I went for the GT 40 was that I felt comfortable with their products, which I still do except for the GT series. I was reluctant to even consider the Katana at first, but have grown to really like it.

I also don't like 'piling on', kickin' 'em when they're down, in the verbal sense.
But my kids will someday tell their kids a few things:

1. action speaks louder than words
2. the lack of words can be an action
3. don't expect action to be ignored

Rock that K !

Expressing your displeasure with a product isn't beating anybody up if it's done respectfully, as I believe most of the conversation here has been. Fender has built a reputable business making high quality products for decades and receives universal praise for it. If they release a product that people don't like, they need to know that as well.

I bought my GT100 off the showroom floor. Have had no problems other than the requests I've made here in the forums for things like being able to REORDER the dang presets. If there was a problem with my amp or sounded like mud, it probably would have never been on the showroom floor. Plus the speaker was more than likely broken in too. Play it in the store. If you like it, buy that one!

I ended up returning mine. I have been doing a lot of research this week and I spent quite a bit of time at Guitar Center yesterday. I grabbed an inexpensive Squire and played through all the modeling amps (VOX VT, Peavey Vypyr, Marshall Code, Line 6, Blackstar, Mustang V2 and another GT for reference). I compared them all clean and OD to my favorite GT patches.

Admittedly, I should have done this homework and testing prior to my initial purchase. I was totally upsold at GC and made an impulse buy based on a few minutes of playing and what an 18 year old sales kid told me rather than my own research, and ended up with something that just wasn't going to work well for me. I went in there intending to get a little 1 V2 for $120. Had I known then what I know now, I would have easily passed on it or at least waited a few months to see how it all ended up.

There's certainly a lot to like about this little amp, it's just not the right amp for me.

Cheers
