So I am not the most savy when it comes to knowing firmware updates but if the fender servers were taken down at some point, we would lose all the updates that have been coming out? they don't save to the amp automatically sorry if I am misunderstanding. I have my GT100 and I like it so far after finding some online presets and tweeking further. I think the amp has bugs but major potential, but this thread has made me a little nervous as to the future of the amp. I got it for small live gigs and rehearsals until I can generate cash for something more. I went digital for the first time with the MustangIII and loved it and love the GT but there are little bugs that worry me. The app is really glitchy as disconnects the blue tooth ALOT, I am hoping the next patch fixes the app. Anyone know when we can expect another update?

To close out my story in this post, after going back to the factory base firmware, I upgraded the firmware again and my problems got worse. The amp began crashing everytime I went into the menu and turned the dial. The good news is I had time left to exchange for a new one yesterday. Updated the new one to the latest firmware and played for 3 hours crash free. I suspect the first amp had a defect in the electronics related to the networking for wifi. It is making me think for the first time of using a power surge protector for an amp.

Since i last posted i have a an opinion on FW updates here. I went thru a similar thing and fender eventually sent me a new one. But i don't think it's hardware related. Because of what i went thru with it and the MANY times i not only updated but did restores to base firmware then updated again and did forced restores, I think the problem is firmware updates via wifi are not a reliable way to do it. I now have this new amp they sent me under warranty and it woks fine with that same update the last one was buggy with, but it came with that version right from the factory so i think they update it on the line and probably do it more reliably somehow. It's one of the only things about the amp that has me worried because what if you update it and the update changes something you don't like, even changes the sound in a way i don't like. Or just doesn't work right for you. Or what if you keep the amp for years and at some point fender no longer has the firmware on the server. How do i get back to the previous version? You can't. There are many scenarios i could envision where you could be left with an amp that isn't working right or doesn't do something the way it did that you need. All that plus the bugginess of wifi update and i think we really need to be able to update via USB and be able to download and save firmware versions like with the old mustang. I just don't know if thats possible on the GT because the USB on it is for recording so i don't know if it can be configured to do firmware updates. But i think this is ine area fender did it wrong. Updating is not something that you do so often that the convenience of wifi is important. I:d rather pull out a cable and connect it to a PC once a year or 3 and be sure it updates correctly and be able to update to whatever version i want than have 10 seconds of convenience every few years. This is IMO the kind of technology usage thats unnecessary and done just because they can rather than it being a good idea. I think it's a very bad idea. Love the amp and appreciate fender's work and effort, but this IMO is a mistake. I just hope at some point they feel the same and are able to allow firmware downloads and cable implementation. I just cannot see any downside to it but i can see many with the wifi method.

@Oczad. All good points. Without a true understanding of the root cause with our issues, future updates will be stressful. It will have to be one heck of an update I think before I risk it. Do wish there was a hard update/backup to the design after this post topic. Usually when the firmware updates cease you are left with a fairly stable platform. So I am not as concerned that far out. I laughed at your post about your age, not being around long enough to worry about that. I should (plan to) be around long enough but whether my fingers can still move free of arthritis will be the question ;-) Just played another 2 hours with no crash with the new replacement amp. Going to enjoy it, my playing time has spiked with the amp, bouncing through all of the sounds. At least it has a two year warranty - I will be doing my best to get my money's worth out of it whatever happens. Nothing like getting a sound that you want out of an amp, "Meaner Streets" is my preset of the week.
