So my new GT100 was sitting on my front porch when I got home from work yesterday. I brought the box inside the house and, like a kid on Christmas morning, I opened the box as fast as I could. I pulled her out of the box and plugged her in.

Manual? Who needs the manual? I started fiddling with the controls trying to get my wifi and bluetooth set up but realized I could wait to update the system. Instead I plugged my guitar in and went through a few of the presets. I adjusted the controls a bit and thoroughly enjoyed the sounds coming from this amp. Never owning a modeling amp I was a little concerned about the solid state amp watt/volume problem. That is nowhere to be found here. The GT100 most importantly feels like a tube amp. The low end is there and so is the tube character. I imagine it will only get better from here on out the more I tweak the settings.

I briefly played with the effects, and of course the reverb sounds really nice, but I plan to use my Zoom G5n for any effects I may need other than reverb. I have no footswitch so it just makes sense for me to use my G5n...looper is included. Bonus.

So, in short, this thing is just badass. I primarily care about the Fender models and less about the high gain ones. As I've grown older I've come to really appreciate Fender amps. Those high gain amps and the associated music was a phase I went through. Nothing wrong with it mind you, it's just that I've moved on and my tastes are simpler. I can see why Fender has included them though (cue image of teenager in Guitar Center loudly playing speed scales and thrash using the high gain models).

I've never played through the previous generation Mustangs so I can't compare to the GT100. All I can say is I am really happy I bought it.

Glad you are enjoying your new addition! I feel the same way about mine (GT40, but same heart). It's a great sounding amp all around. Some of the pixie dust features are still half baked (WiFi/BT and minimal Android support out of the gate), but over time those will mature.

I agree but I do think Fender will continually update these amps to peak optimal performance. The wifi and bluetooth are nice features to have but they should be a secondary consideration, i.e. it's how it sounds that is most important.
I had no problems connecting to wifi or updating to the latest updates. I was even able to stream music from my tablet. I can see how it would be convenient to be 15 feet away from the amp and make adjustments from my phone. For me I'm going to basically take the time beforehand to tweak until I like what I hear then save as a preset. Any effects changes I need will be done from my G5n. The amp will stay where it is and I'll rock on.

Did I mention at 22 lbs. how easy it is to transport? I'm lovin' it.

I did consider the GT40 before going with the GT100. My tinkering side has thought about buying a GT40 and stuffing it in a custom cabinet mated to a nice big 12" speaker. I bet we'll see some mods like that in the future.

I don't know if it's possible but (being that it's software I imagine it is) I'd love to see an attenuation/variable power option made available. I love my little Bugera V5 on its one watt setting.

I'd recommend judging the likelihood of that based on whether they continually updated the Cybertwin, G-DEC and old Mustangs.

+1. Run away. Fender Fuse is pretty much a dead stick at this point in terms of web functionality. I would suggest you read up on how Fender is NOT supporting their last product before you buy this one.

I wouldn't. In all the years the V2 mustang was out there were a big TWO updates. After 3 weeks or a month that the GT has been out there have already been the same amount, two, and they are extremely busy right now improving it both in bug fixes and adding/changing things based on customer feedback. I had a issue with mine where fender asked me to return it to study and i had ongoing discussion for a couple weeks with a few reps that made it obvious how much is going on behind the scenes right now in R&D on the firmware. I will be more than surprised if there aren't many more to come, and i'm sure there will be another very soon, probably on the order of a couple weeks or a month, maybe a lot less. .

Given that the GT was far more broken out the door than the Mustangs were, that is not surprising. That doesn't say anything about future development.

That's what they said about the old Mustang too, as late as last year. Expect bug fixes for critical issues or those affecting a large number of customers. Added features? Upgrades after the first year or two? Wait until you see it.
Fender would rather see you buy new products from Fender Digital. They don't make money on upgrades. As long as development costs for bug fixes cost less than a large return volume and bad publicity, expect updates to continue. After that, don't hold your breath.

Ok, well you're entitled to your opinion but I couldn't disagree more. We shall see in time.

I went into my Mustang III v2 purchase with the mindset that there wouldn't be many if any updates and that I had best like what I got at the time I was purchasing it because there would be a good chance that is what I would be stuck with from here on out. And I wasn't too far off. But that's ok. It was an outstanding little amp when I purchased it and it still is today even with very few updates. You have to look at it like it is not a modeling amp and it is just another solid state or tube amp that you see on the showroom floor... what you see and hear is what you get because those guys aren't getting updated (unless you by new ones) and there is a chance that software driven ones won't be updated too. It's a roll of the dice. With the Mustang III v2, it was worth the gamble because it was outstanding as is. I won't be trading "up" to the GT anytime soon that is for sure.

As much as I hate to agree with arth1, what he describes is exactly what happened with Mustang V1 and then Mustang V2. But yeah, maybe this time it will be different.

Note: There was a thread started by Fender staff asking for a wishlist of features for the previous line of Fender Mustang amps. NONE of those feature requests were implemented (AFAIK) and the thread appears to have been deleted. Now they released a new product with some of those features implemented. Why? Because they don't stand to make money by updating something you already bought. Just keep this in mind after the first year or 2 of Mustang GT. "Fairweather Customer Service".

Still don't agree. You're comparing the mustang V1/2 to the GT and theres a huge difference between fenders need.motivation for support back then compared to the GT now. It's apples and oranges. You need to look at it from fender's perspective....the mustang line was thier best selling amp line. We're talking a LOT of money here. When the first mustang line came out there was no worry about supporting it in a big way because they had no idea that it was to become such a huge success. With the GT they put everything on the line by discontinuing thier best selling amp line and releasing a new model to take it's place and theres been a ton of negativity concerning missing features and such COMPARED to the old BEST SELLING amp. If you really think they have no more reason to make sure that negativity goes away i think your fooling yourself. But i'll leave it at that, as i'm not interested in a further 20 posts of debate. Put yourself in fender's shoes. By not supporting the GT line big time they stand to lose big. But again, we shall see.
