One thing i loved about my MIII coming from a lifetime of tube amps was I'd turn it on and it was ready to play in literally 1 second. The GT takes as long as a tube amp. Not a big deal if you play it once a day or such, but if like me you turn it on as many as 10 or 20 times a day it's a pain just like it was with tubes. And if you are working with it and need to turn it on and off a few times for ant reasons it's really frustrating.

I have to think the reason it takes so much longer then the old mustang is it's wifi capability, or some thing that it's looking for or doing at startup that is not necessary unless you will be using whatever it is. I would like to request of the fender team to consider changing this if possible. For example, if it's looking for wifi connections, why not make it do that only when u need that function? I don't want to wait 20 or 30 seconds for it to start up hundreds or even 1000's of times because of some function i will only need once a month or even once a year once the initial updates are done. And note i only used wifi as an example. I don't know what causes it but wifi i bet is most likely. But whatever it is, if it is not necassarly to simply used the amp as normal, IE: just playing it, how about making it so it does whatever it's doing at startup when you actually try and use wifi or whatever function is causing this delay? If i had to wager a guess i would say it hunts for a wifi connection at startup and when you do an update holding down the data button just tells it to not only hunt for the connection but do a update. If thats the case i would think they could make it so holding the button down does both and starting normal ignores it all.

Anyways, i think anyone who is like me and often turns the amp on just to play for a few minutes many times throughout the day would appreciate this as much as i would. Oh, and on a side note, the tuner is really accurate but my god, it is constantly losing it's note and bouncing around no matter where the guitar volume and what pickup. It makes tuning a real pain to the point that if they don't fix it i'm going to buy a tuner pedal for my board because it's such a PITA to use. It would be great if it were steady because the accuracy of it is fantastic. I'd also like to see, and i bet others would too, a stria gt line or arrowhead or something like that in place of that round ball. It give you little feedback as to where the note is so i have to rely solely on the +/- number underneath.

The boot up time for me is less than a minute...not a deal breaker, but I agree the tuner would be great if it was a l title more stable. It is very accurate, but the jumping around is annoying.

I just got my GT100 yesterday. I really didn't pay attention to startup time...it seemed like it was pretty quick. It is basically a computer so it will take time to load up the programs. Overall I didn't think the startup time was bad at all. When I get home from work I'll time it just to see.

Well, it takes as long as a tube amp, and while the old mustang is just as much a computer it starts in 1 second. Of course it doesn't matter to some who turn it on once or twice a day.

Do you turn a desktop computer off after every time you use it? Maybe it makes sense to leave it mostly switched on throughout the day.

True, but i just don't wanna do that and shouldn't have to. The old mustang has about the same amount of features, more in some areas so i think like i said this could easily be changed. It appears i may be the minority tho so if that's the case it'll never happen. I just really loved that 1 second startup in the MIII tho. I always hated the long wait with tube amps so when i got my first mustang that was a big bonus for me.

Have you tried turning off BlueTooth and WiFi in the menu? Speeds up boot time a little. You just have to factor-in the hassle of reconnecting them when you need them.

Being a bit more scientific, I put a stopwatch on the boot time – from switch on to sound coming through with WiFi and BlueTooth on and off. No appreciable difference, about 15 seconds for both.

I did but no joy. Same as above pretty much, tho a couple secs more....17 seconds whether BT and WIFI are on or off.

Maybe on days when the wind is blowing.

I timed my GT40, and it starts much much slower after I've had
three cups of coffee

My startup time clocked in at 15 seconds.

As for the tuner? Great...if you forgot to bring the one you normally use and nobody else in the band has one.

I tried timing the startup standing on one leg with a rasher of bacon over my left ear. Didn't make any difference to the startup time but I swear that the tone was ... smokier.
