Hi
I'm currently using a Mustang l (20watt) amp for home use and quiet rehearsals with others. I have modified most of the presets using the Fuse software on my computer, in order to get a variety of sounds to suit each of our songs.
However, I now have a dilemma. I would like to keep this amp for home use and recording, but I need a larger one for hall rehearsals and gigs. I was considering the Mustang lll (100watt), so that I could use the Fuse software in order to get the same sounds that I have on the small amp. But it looks as though this range of amps is being discontinued, and replaced by the Mustang GT series.
If I was to buy the Mustang GT instead, would I be able to migrate my current settings, either using a direct link to my Mustang l, or from the Fuse software? Or would I need to set everything up on the amp from scratch?
Hope this all makes sense, and that someone may be able to enlighten me. Many thanks.

ps - I am posting this on the Mustang l/ll/lll/lV forum, and also on the Mustang GT forum

Hello,

From what I've read, yes you can. From what I've experienced, no, unless you have an iOS device. Fender has said that any of your Fuse presets will migrate over to the Tone app via your Fender Connect ID. Unfortunately though, the user created custom presets on the Tone site are only accessible via the phone app today, and as of this writing the Android app doesn't have this functionality yet, but it has been promised.

I suspect there are a lot of things it doesn't do now that will eventually be added/changed in future updates depending on how much feedback fender gets on each feature/change. The unfortunate thing is theres no way to know. then again they may ignore most of it and concentrate on bugs mainly, but again, no way to know but buy, wait and hope. Right now whenever i need to be able to save settings i have to revert to the old pencil and paper route.....kinda funny when you think about the fact i'm using 1000's of years old technology to do what todays technology on the GT is missing.

I'd try to get a Mustang V without the speaker cab, for $150 or less.
Guitar Center used gear webpage usually has a dozen to choose from.
It's not light light in weight, but will fit in a bucket seat for travel.
Discontinued does not mean obsolete, and the V has outputs for PA,
100 sound slots, and Fuse. You could use that, and later on, get a GT
when things are solid for Android and computer users.

I bought the GT40, and Fender did a pretty good job on the preset
create/save process. If you follow the manual on a friday night
to make 5 presets, and do another 5 saturday morning,
you'll be well assimilated. The naming scheme works well,
but they'd better roll out a Fuse clone, or dead encoder knobs
will come calling later this year. djwayne bought a bluetooth keyboard
that makes naming things easier, among other things.
Decisions, decisions...
Cheers

Thanks for all your comments guys. As I don't have an iPhone or any other "smart phone", maybe the Mustang GT is not ideal for me. So I've more or less decided to go for a Mustang lll or maybe a Mustang lV while they are still available. Perhaps I'll be able to pick something up for a bargain price if Fender is dropping the range!
I'll post again when I've made a final decision.

All done and dusted.
Bought a Mustang lV at a good price (£299), and I'm very happy with it so far. It is VERY LOUD, and it has 100 presets - 17 of which are basically blank for personal customising. I was able to load the presets from my little Mustang I into those without any trouble.
So, all ready to go now. Only problem is it weighs 47lb. I need to grow some muscles!

Congrats on the MIV! You will love it! Awesome amp!

It's a good thing you got one when you did. I have a feeling the v2 series of Mustang amps are only going to go up in price (at least the used ones) when discontinued. I've talked to more than a few people who have either already ditched their GT or are considering ditching their GT and moving back to the v2. Until Fender gets all the wrinkles in the GT ironed out, I have a feeling you'll be seeing more used GTs than v2s here before long... so supply and demand will probably bump the going rate for a used v2.

And once you have developed muscles, progress to a 65 lb tube amp!

I am a MIII owner. I played around with the GT100 and part of me really wanted one... minimum a "trade up" would cost me at the moment would be more than $200 which I decided isn't worth it to me. I think you are too worried about preserving your presets. Nothing is that complex IMO. Also, the sound won't be exact between the two models (and size speakers!). If youre buying at current prices, the MIII is $329 and GT100 $400, so the MIII, while a good amp, is not worth getting IMO. I love the size, weight and sound of the GT100! I love my MIII as well, but I have no great attachment other than it's the amp I already own. Maybe the prices will drop at the end of the MIII product cycle. There were supposed to be great deals on the MIII v1.0 when the v2.0 came out.

Don't worry, just buy something and just play!

PS I occasionally play a borrowed MI v2.0 and it sounds so completely different than my MIII v2.0 that I can't just swap presets.

As far as I'm concerned, there's no reason to even have a MI and a GT100! The GT100 so light, use it for both! The beauty of modeling amps is that they sound right no matter what the Master volume is set at, the amp models the amp volume! Sell your MI for $50 can put it toward the GT100!

:)
