Hey guys I have seen this mentioned in the forums anywhere else. I am a huge fender fan and as soon as I saw the first review on the GT Series I knew I had to have one.

I've been messing with it for a few days now and something about the sound just isn't quite right to my ears. No matter what settings I use or how I change the global eq there's something harsh and unpleasant about the sound.

I've been scouring other forums and watching YouTube videos and I noticed people saying it sounds out of phase and I think that's what I'm hearing as well. I don't think it's a defect I think it's just a design flaw.

Has anyone else noticed this? This isn't an attack. I really really want to like the amplifier I'm just hoping maybe to get a tip or to shine some light on the issue and see something could be changed on fenders end through a firmware update to correct the issue.

I'm not hearing this on my GT 40. I've been seeing the same in other forums, and I have wondered if, it was as simple assembly mistake in wiring the stereo speakers.

What model do you have? Do you hear the same issue through headphones?

If you have the GT100 i don't see that happening. The others are stereo and theres a lot of potential for that in firmware, which i assume fender is either aware of or will soon be and a fix would be in order. Or like above, speaker wiring, tho i think thats a lot less likely.

But you said a harshness and thats not a phase thing. I have the GT100 and it sounded harsh till the speaker broke in some. It had a fizzy buzzy sound in the top end thats 100% gone now.

If that were the case, you would hear the same flaw when using headphones.
Loop 10 hours of J-Lo and Beyonce tunes through the aux-in,
and the speaker will see life differently! Well, everybody in the house might, too!
Do your neighbors like to dance?

No, if it were a phase problem, you would not hear it when using headphones.

As for "breaking in" speakers, it does have an effect, but the largest part of this is the effect on wetware: Our brains are rather remarkable and learn to compensate for imperfections in sight and sound, and once learned, we no longer notice the flaws. We ignore even huge familiar flaws like air conditioners, fridge pumps and elevators, even if it drives us bonkers the first time we're subjected to the sounds. Our brain will filter out speaker flaws too, if given a chance to "break in". But it will have no effect on other listeners, who have not developed the mental filter.

There's a physical aspect to breaking in speakers too, where sawdust, metal particles and other debris is shaken into places where it doesn't affect the sound. But you don't need days for that, and the better made the equipment is, the less need. Measurements done on audiophile equipment (where enthusiasts believed many days were needed) has shown that the effect diminishes so rapidly that a few minutes on high volume is generally enough, and anything beyond an hour isn't measurable. The rest was breaking in wetware, which is slower.

Trust me, my ears don't get used to and stop hearing things like buzzy top end as my GT had till the speaker broke in. I spent years building tube amp and when i had issues like that they never went away till i made them go away with circuit changes. I've had uncountable amps with tonal issues i hated and i only WISH my ears would have gotten used to them because if that were the case i wouldn't have own at eat 100 tube amps, many of which i sold because i couldn't get along with certain tonal issues that my ears never got used to.
I get the refrigerator thing, but consider this...unlike your fridge you are consciously focusing on listening to you amp when you use it. You will hear what bothers you and that ain't going away. I assure you that if what my GT sounded like at first didn't actually go away, i;d still hear it. Well, actually i'd never hear it again because i would have sold it.

That's good to know. I've located some articles to study.

Actually I was referring to the 'something harsh and unpleasant',
and not anyones labels of sound, and possible causes.

Harsh and unpleasant would either be global, or isolated to the speaker output.
I've never heard that in my GT40 headphones, but many people
have commented on sounds out of the various speakers,
that were not exactly love at first byte.
Cheers
