I was trying to record direct off the USB interface and even with the preset amp volume at 10 I'm getting a very weak recording level in Garageband. Other than cranking the gain, which would change the tone, is there a way to up the recording level sent out over USB? I'd really like to record at night, with the master volume off and just listening with my mixing headphones but can't hear the guitar over the other tracks.

I'm getting my best results in Sonar with the Volume and Gain levels both set at the 3:00 position. Not too soft, not too loud. I don't know anything about Garage Band, but I know in Sonar if your mixer's volume and or gain controls aren't set right, you can get a very low playback level.

I have the same problem with Logic Pro with audio over USB from any device. What I do is to insert a pre-amp as a pre-effect. I don't know if that is possible in GarageBand.

SvenMayhem, are you running the latest firmware on the amp? (Asking as a bit of additional gain was added to the USB out in version 1.1 of the firmware.)

I am running the latest 1.1.2 firmware which I loaded tonight (was running 1.1.0 yesterday). If the level is up between the two I can't tell much. With the volume cranked on the preset and track volume in GarageBand maxed, the lower track in the screenshot is all the signal I'm getting. The other two tracks are loops from Apple I'm using as a backing track instead of a metronome.

OK, understood! Have passed this item along for consideration (i.e., addition of a USB gain control).

Just wondering if there have been any solutions to this since it was posted two years ago. I'm experiencing the same issue using Audacity on my PC.

I know a USB gain control option was added in the 1.4.19 firmware update. It isn't making a big difference for me though. Am I overlooking some other setting? I have the mic/input device volume maxed in Audacity, but the recording volume is still very low.

Thanks,

Matt
