Brad, on the wifi issue they updated. It sounds like it fixes an issue some had that couldn't connect, right?

oczad: correct, what I was describing above was an issue in early firmware that prevented the amp from connecting to WiFi, period, when too many networks were present (said issue was resolved in 1.1.2). Not related to what you were describing.

Interesting - passing this particular observation along to the crew here to have a look.

Brad, I submitted two trouble tickets on this behavior today (Sunday) - the first when I couldn't connect at all and giving the particulars of my WiFi setup; the second after I was able to connect by changing my WiFi password characteristics, documenting what I had found. Note that after I finally got the amp to connect the first time, I went ahead and did the firmware update so that I would have more reliable Bluetooth connectivity with the Tone app before experimenting further with the password situation, so that I could enter the WiFi password via Tone - I was getting really tired of hand-jamming passwords using the encoder wheel.

that is indeed odd. WPA2 should support a password up to 63 characters.

Nevertheless, 15 characters should be OK security wise for a home router. That is unless you do spy work on the side or need to protect a bitcoin mine.

8-63 characters. The 802.11i-2004 Annex H.4.1 specifies that all characters between 32 and 126 ASCII must be supported, which includes spaces.
For added security, many implementations allow the 1-255 range, using a hex editor for input.

The SSID is also problematic - it does not have to be ASCII letters and numbers only.
SSIDs like "Motörhead" and "Friðþór" and "$(/sbin/reboot)" are perfectly legal. In non-English countries, I would expect non-ASCII SSIDs to be fairly common.

I get the feeling all of us early adopters are the Fender beta testers. I just want to play guitar not troubleshoot tech issues.

Ha I hear ya! I've been in IT almost as long as I've been playing guitar, and sad but true, this is usually the way most software solutions are delivered. Get it to where it doesn't crash (often), has most of the features working, and get it out to market. Add to it the varying versions of Android and iOS out there, and the problem is amplified (pun intended) tenfold.

The fact is there are just too many variables to test, and in order to get products to market in a timely manner, some things have to be dealt with after release. There are usually a few features that are knowingly sent out not fully baked, while others are issues that just plain weren't tested for a number of reasons.

What really matters these days is how quickly the manufacturer responds and addresses the issues. That is the question. So far it seems like they are being very responsive, and this is only going to get better.

Fender has asked for beta testers in the past. Link I answered the call and never heard from them. If they had sent me (an IT professional) an amp to test out, I could have weeded some of this stuff out. In fact a lot of us here on the forum signed up to beta test. Did anyone receive a Mustang GT amp to try out? Was it just email harvesting for their Marketing department?

Well don't be so hard on Fender... Marshall is going thru their own set of issues with their Code amps as well.

It's just the nature of the beast to have problems with cutting edge technology.

This isn't due to a lack of testing, although testing could have uncovered it.

It's a design flaw, which is almost certainly due to lack of technical specs, or changing of the specs by someone who didn't know they were based on a documented requirement.
Time constraints doesn't really explain it, given that the 802.11 requirements take about, oh, a minute to Google, which is likely less than coming up with homemade specs that disagree.

It is to Fender and Marshall.

Actually I am also an IT professional, and I was a beta tester for Fender Fuse. So I understand the difficulty of rolling an amp like the Mustang GT out to market, but I guess I'm just getting tired of buying technology that isn't all there. I probably should have thought about that before buying one.

an IT professional who doesn't like buying products until they are "all there". I'm guessing you are not on team Microsoft then.

So you beta tested Fuse ... did you hear from Fender at all about testing this new line of amps or the associated apps? All I got out of signing up was they added me to a SPAM list.

So, has anybody else had the 15-char-no-spaces WiFi password problem? I realize that my 40-char-passphrase is overkill, but I ain't changing it now just for the Mustang GT; I have it entered in too many devices by now

And no response yet from my trouble tickets. At least I got the amp working with a guest network and was technically savvy enough to smell out the problem, I'm just surprised that nobody seems to have run across it before.

I only have a 10 char passcode so it's not an issue for me.
