I would like to start a thread for people like me that just aren't getting it with the new Mustang GT's. As new adopters there just isn't that much info on how to do things available yet. I'll start off with some questions and hopefully we can get some answers to the new way of doing things.

1. I have a lot of presets on my Mustang IV v2 that I would LOVE to move to the new GT. Mine is a 100 btw if that helps. The question has been asked and response was pointed to an answer about your Fuse account and Connect would be merged was baffling at best. If someone could post a clear and directive answer it would make my day. Right now I'm left with writing down preset parameters and the new modules don't exactly correspond to the old ones making this task quite difficult.

2. Can I audition or try out downloadable presets without 'adding' them, as all my attempts seem to store the preset on my amp. And if I don't like them, have to use the Tone app to delete them which until the Tone app update yesterday was very frustrating because trying to delete them were causing problems itself. Also, is there a way to delete a preset from the amp own menu system?

3. How do you backup your created or favorite downloaded presets. While Fuse was sometimes not the easiest software to use, it did let you create backups. Question #2 scenario caused me to do a factory reset more than I'd like to admit. So, this is important to me as well.

These are the questions that are perplexing me for now. I have only had the GT for few days now and thought it would be straight forward as I have been using the Mustang IV for several years without having to look up answers. I even figured out Fuse without questions. As usage and time elapse and maybe even Tone V2, we will be provided with wonderful expert advice, but right tutorials are nowhere to be found.

Thank you for advice. Everybody please post their questions and advice and experiences so we can help each other out. I love the sounds I'm getting from the new GT's and would like to master control over it too.

Thanks,
Krunch

I don't have any answers 4 u, but my biggest gripes are your one about preset saving and moving presets. On the old one you hit save and turn the dial to the slot # you want to save it in and thats it. 3 second operation. On this one it's a tedious procedure thats takes about literally 100 times as long. It's make a lot of editing a real pain for me and has me doing a lot less tweaking than i want to. That may be my biggest gripe because i can barely live without it. The other, saving your presets is the other. I do what you do....i write them down. real pain in the @, and if you happen to have a lot of tweaked presets it could be a day long operation just to manually redo them all if you have to for any number of reasons.

Also, not all of us has a cel, or a compliant cell, and the app is useless. I'm one of those. I would strongly suggest to fender they at least write a small simple app that will work on mac and windows where people could save thier presets and move presets on the amp for one location to another. Thats all it would need to do to resurrect a couple much needed functions that for some reason were not kept from the MIII. How hard can it be for a programmer to write a tiny app to do that either via wifi or even usb cable? I bet it could be done in a few hours. I appreciate the GT's sound maybe more than most, but i really miss these features. Still love the amp, but please fender....it wouldn't take much and you'd see a lot more 100% satisfied customers because i see these things mentioned all the time, sometimes ending with "maybe i'll look at the katana" or such.

I agree with both of you. If you don't have a device that will work with the app right now there's no way of saving externally or loading anything other than cloud presets and that's 3 step's backwards from using Fuse with the Mustang II. The amp was obviously done before the app so let's hope there will be fixes done in a timely matter.

Thanks to oczad we have our first great tip concerning the old 4 button foot switch:

Yes, fender not only acknowledges its the same, they are going to make magnetic faceplates to put over the old switch so the labels are correct as per the new functions. And when they are available they;re giving them out free ! theres a PDF of the image too so you can print and paste it if you want to do that while waiting for fender to have them ready. here ya go.... https://support.fender.com/hc/en-us/art ... amplifier-

Fender was very cool do do that. Brad, any idea when those overlays will be available?

I also have another suggestion for the GT team. The looper is what a guy at another forum called a minefield waiting to go off. I agree. imagine hitting the mode button by accident at a gig then going to hit the button for an effect only to find the looper mode is on its the looper's play button you just hit and in the middle of a tune all or a sudden random parts or chords come shooting out of your amp. I can't see that NOT happening eventually if you play much. That would be embarrassment to beat the band. I would suggest a way to disable the looper at the amp so when you hit the mode button it goes past it to the 1st mode. After all, a looper isn't something most people are going to use live and at home you'd be able to use it by enabling it. Really scary design IMO, especially because the mustang switch, and this is a design issue many have cited in the past, has the buttons so close it's hard not to accidentally hit 2 of them. Even better, instead of just making it so u can disable it, make it so that that mode can be replaced with another that the amp doesn't have now. Maybe 2 buttons for patch up/down and 2 for stomps so you can do 2 different functions in one mode.

I love the looper feature. Please post how we can get the magnetic overlay...the 4 button switch has so many features it's hard enough to use even when labeled properly!

My thoughts exactly on being able to disabling the looper. I've already hit the looper 3 times by accident and thought to myself "well this would be embarrassing on stage". To take that one step further if that could be done could maybe that 3rd layer could be available for pedals. I'm reaching I know lol

I cut light colored stickers to fit the mode buttons and encoder button.
Sure helps me feel like I'm gonna be on target, on dark and rainy nights.
I also added a vertical strip of white tape between the LED and the button bank.

I agree we need a win/mac computer app, with file-management capability
on all presets slots.

Cheers

If you'll be using amp-sims regularly put the basic preamp sound
first (or last) so you can get to it easily

Cheers

Lets say you've got 140 GT sounds, if you put your most used sounds in, for example,
the last 20 slots, and the first twenty slots, you'll be turning the selector knob
a lot less, ignoring the 100 in the 'middle', until actually needed.
Cheers

Another helpful Tip:

djwayne says-
I bought my USB cable at Office Depot. Made by Duracell. Model # LE2189...Micro USB Charge and Sync.

It is about 10 foot long and costs around $11.00. It worked perfectly for me. I'm getting great recordings, although I need to boost the volume up 10 db.

I wasn't sure it would work but it did perfectly.

Krunch says-
Went in search of the USB cable mentioned above as others I had did not work. Office Depot was out. Went next door to Radio Shack and got a GigaWare 6' Male to Micro part #26-1415 for $9.00. I can verify that this one works too.

My tip ?? Bite the bullet and get either an iPod($199), an iPad($299) or an IPhone(??) and download the Tone app. You'll be glad you did, why ?? The big pay off is you'll get some great sounding presets, plus you can save your own. You can wait for an Android version or you can get started right away. I decided to bite the bullet and go for it.

Another great benefit is I now have an iPod and all that comes with that. Bluetooth music player, check email, tons of apps to chose from, iTunes, ....it's a fun gadget.

Not trying to start an Apple vs Android holy war, but there is one big difference between iOS and Android that people on this board may be interested in: iOS has a bunch of low-latency audio APIs that enable lots of very cool applications for making music. You can get a good guitar interface that plugs into your iOS device for less that $80 (you can get a really good interface for less than $100) that will turn your iOS device into a mini DAW. Apple's GarageBand is not more than a few bucks (it might be free now, I'm not sure) and gives you features like amp and pedal modeling, recording, soft instruments, etc. There are lots of other instruments and amp simulators, including BIAS; tools for analyzing music and helping you dig into songs with speed up and slowdown, chord detection, pitch shifting, section looping, and instrument spotlighting (Capo is my favorite of these); keyboards and drums; and ways to tie all of these together. Android simply hasn't provided the app developers the tools needed to make this kind of thing work.

I don't know if this has any effect on the disparity between the iOS Tone app functionality and the Android version (probably not), but for those who are interested in DAW-type functionality from their phone or tablet type device, the capability that Apple provides may interest you.

I know what you're saying but all this app needs to do is remote control the amp not be a DAW or a virtual instrument. Have you ever used the Xair software for Behringer digital mixers? It works great on Android I've never had a hiccup and as a matter of fact many people recommend the Android version over the Apple and the original coder continues to develop the app for Android so to me the whole Android is too hard to code for argument fly's right out the window. In this day and age there's no excuse to ignore Android and expect people to buy an ios device, that's old school thinking.

I wasn't thrilled about having to buy an ios device, but now that I have the iPod, I like it. I've worked with it for a while now and like the many features it has. The reality is we don't know when Fender is going to get set up with Android or anything else. So I'm looking at the present situation....and the iPod does the trick. Now. Not six months from now, not a year from now, but now, as in right now. I guess from Fender's point of view, they had to start development somewhere. As with all new cutting edge technology, sometimes you have to wait for it to get developed. Android just isn't there yet, neither is Windows 10.
