From what I understand any preset from the online Fuse community can now be accessed through Tone and played on the GT?
What about your own presets, can you access them on the GT? And how?

And as said is there any reason to keep your old Mustang or does the GT make it redundant?

It's my understanding that if you don't have an iPhone, you can't access the Tone program because it is not capable of connecting thru Windows 10. So it's worthless to me.

Well for me to get an iPad would cost me about $350 bucks....that's an issue for me.

That's why it should have been Android first, then iPhone/iPad. You can pick up a usable Android tablet cheap. Apple products? Not so much.

I'd prefer a Windows 10 program. I have a Windows 10 pad, and desktop. I believe the system requirements are IOS 9 which many pads won't do.

A wise person once said that any piece of electronic equipment still does what you thought was good when you originally bought it. If you can put the cash from a sale to better use, then sell it. I still like my IV v2. Great backup. It's gonna be sticking around for a while.

For recording gear modern plug-ins have replaced rack mounted gear. Waves makes some great plugs. And I can put a Lexicon reverb on every track with different settings if I want and have the horsepower to do so.

I guess your question depends on your monetary situation. These Mustang amps are not like I bought a Dumble (yeah, right) and need to recoup a ton of cash. If I could I would keep it.

He wasn't all that wise, then. For some electronic devices, they may technically work, but the environment they relied on has changed, so they don't still do what you thought was good back when.

Examples include radios and TVs for bands that are no longer used, mobile phones that require a credit card sized sim card, pulse dial phones, cameras requiring flip flash or magicube flashes no longer made, and guitar amps where some of the functionality relies on deprecated software that can't run on modern machines...

Unless using the GT was near impossible, tone for me trumps everything. Yeah, i have issues with some of the GT design decisions as far as functions go. 2 of them are killing me. But it would take far far more than that to keep my MII V2. The tone is just so much better overall including the effects quality, i just can't see keeping the MIII. I mean, think about it.....if i don't even want to play the MIII anymore because i prefer the GT's tone much more, what does it matter HOW much better the MIII's functions are? I don't buy food i dislike over food i love just because it's on sale.

My reply wasn't meant to be taken that literally. I did mention that my old rack mounted gear presently resides in a land fill somewhere. It was from a keyboard magazine from years back trying not to discourage someone who just bought a Roland synth and finds out 1 month later Roland has released a new version.

Not everyone can ride the new tech wave. My laptop is 8 years old and still runs Logic just fine. Not everyone can afford to keep their old stuff.

Your point doesn't go unrecognized though. I can take it. No snow flake here.

BTW though, I have some vintage reissue Strats. Should I toss them for modern Strats? Just pokin' at ya man. I'll be here all week...

I have a GT40 and a Mustang III v.2

I was going to sell the old amp but so far I am just not impressed with the sound quality or the (in my case) non functioning tone app. The old v.2 still rocks so I am hanging on to it for now.

If your style of preset creation uses enough effects that they take you
far away from the basic amp tones, and you like the older controls, desktop apps,
and workflow, and you have room, then keep the old amps.
The more effects you use, the less you'll hear the pristine new amp sounds.
The new effects should be better, but personal favorites can be more important.

Especially if preset transfer is a problem, and time to do it manually is
thin on the ground.

On the other hand, selling the old amp can go toward a used iOS device,
affordable android tablet, 4 button footswitch, cost differentials
betwwwn GT models, or a dinner date with your
amp-loving honeybunch etc etc
Cheers

The old apmps can always be used to great effect with modern apsims and effects apps.
Guitar Rig 5 has great effects and interface, even the free version,
but the the amp models are now old-tech, but the effects sound great from various
Mustang tones used as preamp/pedal gear.
Cheers
