Considering the GT40 as I really don't need a 100W but am concerned that the 6" speakers won't sound nearly as good as the 12". Haven't had a chance to try them out as the stores in my city haven't recieved any yet. Anyone have a chance to a do an A/B comparison? Also anyone know if the 40 has Celestion speakers.

The GT-100 and GT-200 have Celestion branded 12" "Special Design" speakers, while the GT-40 has Fender branded 6.5' "Special Design" speakers.

"Special Design" typically means lower-cost OEM.

The combined area of 2x6.5" speakers is around 66 in^2, while the area of a single 12" is around 113 in^2. In reality, the difference is even bigger due to the speakers being measured rim to rim, and not just the movable area. Combined with a shorter stroke, don't expect too much rumble from the GT-40.

On the sunny side, running the amp through whatever computer you use,
means you can use some rumble-monster powered speakers
with standard line connectors, for times you want some serious thump.

And if you get even medium quality headphones, you'll also
be able to enjoy the output at significant volume, and your cat
can then come down off the ceiling for a snooze
Cheers

The 40 is more of a practice amp and i think the speakers are likely fine for that. But if you try and use it for anything more it will likely disappoint because not only are the speakers small, and i don't know this for a fact but i can't see how it could be otherwise, the power amp is 40 watts combined but thats from 2 separate power amps because it's stereo. So chances are it's actually 20 watts per side which in anything but a practice situation is probably going to be very disappointing. But if you just worry about the speaker's sound compared to the celestions in the bigger amps, i don't think you will find the bigger ones better for practice purposes. I have reason to believe fender really knew what they were doing when they designed these. They got it right.
''As for special design meaning cheap, i don't think so here. I emailed Celestion about the 12' and was told they are a 100 watt version of thier seventy 80 speaker which is a flat response speaker designed to deliver what an amp like the mustang needs. Not FULL range but a flat EQ curve to let the models and cab sims shape the tone rather than a speaker. It was made special for fender to have that extra power handling over the seventy 80, so if anything thats not a cheaper way to go. They needed a speaker like that and celestion is the #1 name in guitar speakers so thats what they've gone with for mustangs from day one. If anything it would likely be slightly more expensive than going with thier go to manufacturer for most of thier cheaper amp speakers, eminence. I always found OEM eminence speakers boring. Yet to hear one i liked. But celestion always seems to have a more polished tone for lack of a better word.

I've had my GT 40 for about a week now. It's a small amp with a pretty big sound. It's plenty loud for my living room or anywhere else in my house. When I got it, the GC guy brought one out of the back and we played with it for a while. At first he commented that the bass was a little lacking. I pointed out that the bass was turned way down on the model we were first using. We turned it up and both of us were really impressed. Even in the large store we were in it sounded good. More importantly, the quality of the sound is good. I have a Mustang 1 v2 and even when I get the two amps setup as closely as possible I prefer the GT 40. My daughter and I also went into the store and tested both the 100 and the 40 side by side. The 100 clearly had more power, but the quality of the sound was amazingly close. We switched back and forth several times as I was considering replacing the 40 with the 100. After our little test I decided to keep the 40. I just don't need the volume or footprint of the bigger amp and the 40 really held it's own for tone and range. If I was ever to get good enough or have the opportunity to play in public, I wouldn't hesitate to get one of the larger ones. I have also been using the amp as a Bluetooth speaker around the house. It does a pretty good job. It doesn't beat out my home sound system, but it's definitely usable and has good range. Hope this helps those of you who don't have access to one. I highly recommend playing one if you can. Don't just listen to online videos. I was surprised and you may be too.

Got my own GT 40 a couple days back - and it can actually get quite a bit louder than I was expecting! That said, if you're ever anticipating playing in a situation with a live drummer (i.e., at stage volumes) I'd definitely suggest opting for the GT 100 or 200 instead.

Thanks for the info. Good to know that the GT40's sound is comparable to the 100. My local store is getting a few in soon and I will definately take one for a test drive.

@arth1 From the discussions about speakers in the GT series in other forums and calls to Celestion the special edition Celestion speakers seem to be flat (response) speakers and not the typical "scooped" guitar speakers. This makes sense, if you plug in a head phone, the output sounds just like the output of the speakers. The cab emulation is done in the DSP and then sent to the flat speakers or the USB or the headphone jack. (This is also why streaming bluetooth audio to the amp sounds normal and not like you are playing music through a guitar amp.)

Does anyone know the impedance rating of the speakers inside? I have this crazy idea where I might want to mod the GT 40 with external speaker outputs… yeah, I know, crazy. But I just can't help myself sometimes.

GT40 specs are listed here:

https://tremoraudio.co.nz/guitar-amplif ... ifier.html

(a lot of amp sales pages neglect mentioning speaker ohms rating,
or have it in a secondary techy link, but speaker dealers usually
have such info up front, as it's needed for modifications
to be made safely.)

General fender gear info:

https://support.fender.com/hc/en-us

Mustang GT and Tone info:

Question. I might play a small gig and I want to use this amp. I was thinking I might use the 3.5mm output and use an XLR adapter to plug into the venues PA system. Is the output on this not high quality? Should i opt for the GT100 that has the XLR output built in?
:? :? :?
