No joy! They announce they are no longer Fender dealers, which sucks. That's the same place I purchased my Mustang III V1. The guy mumbled something about Fender requiring them to buy too many of products they didn't need in order to be able to buy products they did need. Very disappointing! So if I want to try a Mustang GT amp in person, I'll have to drive to the nearest Guitar Center in either Asheville or Charlotte (I'm located kind of between them).

I guess it will be Asheville, since it is a more pleasant drive. Ah, I don't need a new amp, anyway. My Mustang III V1 is still going strong and sounding great.

Most chics, whether on the dance floor, or lighting candles for a
romantic dinner, won't be concerned much about which amp is used
in the current song.

But my chic can suddenly quote Jerry McGuire verse by verse, when I bring home
something in guitar-center-lookin' box

Cheers

I no longer have to justify my Guitar Center purchases to any woman. I almost got married again last year, but backed out. So Guitar Center is still an option for me. :D

I'd love to find a girl who understands that sometimes I just need a new guitar or amp, a top of the line computer for gaming, and occasionally something like a pinball machine or arcade machine in my house.

She'd probably be okay that I like kitchen gadgets, though.

My wife's attitude when it come to me wanting to buy gear is: If you keep waiting, it will be that much more time you will be without it, and you can't get that time waiting back, so just get it already. Oh that's one of the reasons I married her

That's pretty much how my wife responds. It makes life good.

Same for me !! She even goes with me to buy something new! Sometimes I think she enjoys it more than I do.

There were three couples shopping together at GC today when I got my amp.
It was a perfect 70 degree afternoon, for spring fever.
Shop together, play together, stay together!
Cheers

Hmmm. I think this thread has gotten off topic.

I must say I was disappointed in hearing about Fender's strong arm tactics toward the local music stores in my area. This is a chain of six stores in the surrounding counties, so it isn't just one "mom and pop" store. So when I stopped by hoping to see one of these new amps, all I saw were examples of Fender's competition's amps (and guitars and accessories).

I remember when I bought my Mustang III from one of these stores, the salesman was strongly urging me to try the Peavey Vyper amps, but I couldn't get past the stupid vampire teeth look of the amps, so I didn't even try one. Now there are no Fenders in these stores for comparison. Also, Fender has gotten away from the classic "Fender look" and chosen to go with really cheap-looking knobs, so that is another strike against them.

I find it strange that the two-speaker Mustang GT 200 (200 Watts) weighs 2 pounds less than my one-speaker Mustang III (100 Watts). Where did all the weight go? Are these things made of tolex-covered cardboard? Did they sacrifice speaker magnets for the sake of less weight? It will be interesting to see how long these new amps hold up.

All I know is the "impulse buy" urge can be very strong when a new product comes out. Even though I don't need a new amp, there was a good chance I would have bought one if I had liked what I had heard. But since there were no Fender amps at the local music stores, that impulse has faded away and I don't know if / when I will make it to a Guitar Center to check one out. Frankly, I'm more likely to spend an extra $400 and buy a Line 6 Helix system. They have the Helix LT out now for $1000.

yeah that's the first thing I noticed. Y'know looks do matter (a little). The v1 Mustangs looked great, the v2 Mustangs looked "cheaper" to me, and these new Mustangs don't have the right look for what they are supposed to be IMO. The v1 amps had kind of a "modern-vintage" thing happening that was a perfect match.

Back on subject. In my area there are 3 local music store 2 can only sell accessories, the 3rd however is interesting as they can only sell Squire, low cost amps, they may have a Bassbreaker or two I saw, and Gretsch, ( FMIC handles most of the development, distribution and sales.) but no MIM or MIA, I spoke with them, they told me they can order Fender MIA or MIM, but can't carry any, it has to do with inventory that they must keep, and if they do well with Squire, they may get in some MIM, that is Fenders policy. For me the Squire stuff doesn't really move me.
I go to the two local shop and try the used Fender guitars and see what has come in, but mostly vintage-y stuff for way too much money, so I am forced to get in my car and drive, drive, drive, to the big box guitar shop when the mood hits me
