Hi.

I have read through a load of posts and can't find the answer to my question.

I have a GT100 and want to use it for live work in small rooms rather than dragging racks about for small events. All I want to do with it is to change the saved presets, nothing more. 35 Presets and move one preset forwards, one preset which will include different presets within a number, so i need some form of foot switch. This is my first Fender amp and I expected a foot switch that simply moves presets UP & DOWN, even just UP would do. Reading the script on the MGT-4, it appears I can only select one preset from a choice of three, so that ones out, I also want to avoid doing the River Dance, not complicated, one button to move one preset forward. I have tried looking through the amp foot-switch settings as I have a foot-switch but nope, nothing there except for the MGT-4. I currently use MIDI to move presets, a simple one step process and nothing to go wrong when live. I would like the same with the Mustang, so my question is - Is this possible?

Many thanks in advance.

Tony

So, I really have searched extensively, but have found surprisingly little on this: My mgt-4 footswitch (on a Gt100) all the sudden started exhibiting a "u-3" error code and no longer works. This after locking up while playing a loop and then, I guess, just dying. I noticed that this thread has a picture of a U-3 error, but no reference, and I found one other thread with u-3 reference but thats it. No solutions, guidance, or a manual to explain the error codes.

Can anyone point me in the right direction? I'm having a hard time believing that this is a hardware issue as the one other thread suggests. Thanks!!!

Mine does that now and then, but since i hardwired the multipin connector that connects the footswitch circuit board to a main board in the amp is stopped freezing up. Now and then it still gives the u-3 error but i can always coax it back to normal, and it only does it rarely now. That multipin connector is probably the cause of the majority of people with this issue. What exactly causes the error i don't know, but that junky quality connector's loose nature seems to be what hastens the error because it pretty much fixed it for me. Used to lock up one to 3 times a day and hasn't done it since i did the fix about a month or 2 ago.

Well, damn....it did it again just when i was sure i whipped it. Not like before which was every day 1 to 3 times, but it did it once. The only sense i came make of the fact it stopped for weeks after i hardwired every pin on that connection is maybe loose connections exacerbated whatever the actual cause of the issue is so the connections being solid just kept it from happening near as much. Oh well. I have never had so many problems with one particular amp, but i do like the tone i get and the features, so even if i get something else for band use at some point i would still keep it because I still consider this a great home amp where switching isn't near as important to me.

Note to Fender: if you INSIST on a proprietary pedal interface, then maybe build something that works consistently. The v1/v2 pedals were wonky too.

I think the FS design is just flawed and it would required hardware changes in the amp to fix it. So they likely figure since they can't fix the god knows how many GT's already sold they'll just let it go till the next mustang comes out. It's been pretty obvious for a long time now the GT line is about as flawed as any amp thats ever been released and it's likely been a nightmare foe the dev team. The only good that can come out of this whole debacle is that the next line they release will likely be great because the thought of another fiasco like this would e unthinkable. And with all they have learned about what mistakes to avoid and how to avoid them should go a long way to making the next mustang great. I just hope they are listening to us with both ears.

The footswitch is a bit of a pain. Especially in conjunction with setlists - IE. if you use the footswitch to change a preset on the set list ts fine, but then use your phone, it jumps out of setlist mode. No good if you need to change a parameter on the fly.

So what I'm doing now is arranging my presets into groups of three in the main list. I don't use more than three different presets per song we play (usually one clean/slight dirt and one lead tone. I then leave the third preset empty. So I only need to bank up or down between songs. So the set up is something like this for three songs...

1. Song 1 clean
2. Song 1 lead
3. Empty
4. Song 2 Lead
5. Empty
6. Empty
7. Song 3 clean
8. Song 3 lead
9. Empty
etc etc

So its now its easier for me to change preset during songs and doesn't matter if I use the switch or the phone to change. Also means I can adjust settings on the fly if needed and stay in MY "setlist". It does mean there may be duplication's of the same sounds/presets, but I can leave with that.
