Can't speak to #1 but i seriously doubt it for a few reasons. On the looper i can tell you this. The GT footswitch is just like the current V2 mustangs except the far right switch says "overdub" where the current one says delay. So i can't imagine it could be anything BUT a looper. It will only be footswitchable tho if you program the footswitch to be in mode #3. Lucky for me, thats the mode i DO use. I never used a looper but when i play out it's 3 piece and i can imagine how useful that could be if it;s not to hard to use w/o causing too many trainwrecks.

Anyone know these answers?

1. Will the 40's two 6.5 speakers be full range (FRFR)? If so ... it's a super loud Bluetooth speaker in addition to a guitar amp, jam track mp3s from my phone will sound great, and an acoustic guitar would sound good.

2. Is the looper confirmed? It's on some product pages at the bottom when talking about the footswitch. Something more powerful than Line6 Spider V 60's would be great (which is a super basic looper that can't utilize its built-in drum loops).

Thanks!

Thanks, but about the full range speakers, I don't see why Fender wouldn't use those in the 40 since it's being marketed as a tabletop or recording desk unit, which feels like it should be used as a powered monitor (at least for the MP3 playback) or even as a computer speaker.

It looks a lot like the Blackstar ID core beam, which is marketed as a stereo Bluetooth music speaker and a guitar amp in one.

This would be the killer feature, because you could play an acoustic and Loop it, then lay down lead electric and even vocals... all in one.

because full range is only better or needed if the models themselves are designed around them. The mustang series both old and the new are designed around guitar speakers. The small amp is going to have the same models as the others, which are the meat and potatoes of the series. The development of the models themselves is 99% of the work. So they're not going to develop different models for the small amp. I think its obvious it's the same amp as the 100 and 200 watt amps but with a smaller power section and small speakers. But the models being developed to sound good thru a guitar speaker rather than full range, it wouldn't be an advantage to use a full range speaker system in the small amp, in fact it would likely sound bad. try taking the output of a tube amp and sending it to a stereo system's speaker and i think you'll see what i'm saying. Other modelers that DO use full range systems, you will notice that they don't offer them in a combo amp format with a guitar speaker. Fender's mustang series modeling is designed to sound right thru a guitar speaker. It's simply a different format.

That's super helpful info. Thanks so much. I just wonder why the Blackstar core id amps sound so good. An MP3 player/phone sounds perfect through them, and the guitar tones (though limited in number) are fantastic. The amps get a ton of 5 star ratings.

If it's truly not going to be full range, what do you think about my other thread I posted last night about using the aux jack to run the amp into powered speakers, to get guitar+backing music in stereo?

Last ... I noticed the old Fender passport mini uses a 6.5 full range, so I thought maybe those would be used for the GT 40.

Probably because they designed the preamp for the aux (in the blackstar) to compensate EQ wise for the speaker''s range. For example, if a guitar speaker has a peak at 1k the aux preamp might have a valley there to flatten it out. Might have a boost at the highest treble frequencies to compensate for the fact those frequencies are attenuated in a guitar speaker. Etc etc. By the way, i played thru those many times in my former job in a amp repair capacity and i never felt they sounded and even more so felt as good/realistic as the mustang, not even close. Thats just me, but in any case if the new mustang is an improvement over the already great mustang series tone wise, i think it will be the new gold standard for low to mid range combo amp modelers.

I'm excited to see what they have to offer, I would probably sell my Mustang IV V.2 to get one.. only thing is I hardly use the amp I have now.

I bought a small Vox modeling amp just for size (and carry if I go somewhere).. I think I need to re-arrange my bedroom to make room to be able to use the IV and have it better accessable.

Great insights oczad! Thanks so much. Very helpful for me to understand it all.

My dream is to play with drums or tracks through powered speakers anyway, so maybe I will run the aux out anyway to speakers (so band plus guitar plus looper would all go through the speakers).

GT 40 sighting and I got a preview of the box. <g> On the upper right side at the top if you zoom in you can see a link, tone.fender.com so I typed in the URL and it wants me to sign in (Authentication Required). I tried every Fender user name and password that I have and it was a no go.

I thought I might have discovered a link that would allow me to hear and see what this baby can actually do.

Fender,... formally announce it already; you don't want someone to buy another companies amp if they knew you were coming out of the closet soon.

I will say though Marshall announced the Code too early but you know I could demo it and give you my secret behind the scenes opinion if you want for free. 8) You know we have been kissin cousins for many decades. :P

Another interesting link

https://www.amazon.com/Fender-0994071000-Mustang-Amplifier-Footswitch/dp/B06Y62B5QV/ref=sr_1_1?s=musical-instruments&ie=UTF8&qid=1492908518&sr=1-1&keywords=Fender+mustang+gt100

Shows the 4 button foot switch is the same for all three models but is included in the GT200. Also reveals the looper length to be 60 seconds, which is a little longer than most competitors st the moment.

Good find and thanks!

Geez, I know how to work the pedal by just looking at it and without reading the manual.

I always felt my Fender Floor had a real nice layout as well.

I think losing the tolex front grill is brilliant and the amp looks very modern and sexy to me. <g>

Yeah, I was really glad to see the built in looper. I've been looking into a home practice amp. Started off looking at the Mustang I now I've decided to get something bigger and better to future proof against jamming/gigging. Really like the idea of a looper so I've been looking at amps with effects loops or a looper built in.

The Blackstar ID Core 100 has a looper but only 30 seconds, so probably too short other than for recording a rhythm track and playing a solo over it.

60 seconds is a good amount. Hopefully the GT100 has an effect loop so that if I enjoy the looping and want a standalone looper for more options I can add one at a later date.

Still waiting on the GT release! I want to check the prices. I was hoping they would just replace the current mustangs and their prices but it doesn't look to be that way. A Boss Katana 100 with a standalone looper may actually be cheaper, which is my other option.

Thats odd because i saw a pic of the 4 button switch when they first released the mustang GT pics and it was labeled exactly as the old switch except for on thing....where the current switch says "delay" the new one said "overdub". Now this new one is completely relabeled so i guess at some point they changed things to make the looper more usable or something. As far as pricing, the 40 watt 2x6" is $299, the 100 watt 1x12" is $400 and the 200 watt 2x12" is $500 if i recall correctly. Hopefully the footswitch either come with it or the old one will work with it, which it may but of course the labeling would be wrong. And chances are if it does, like the old line it would only come with the 2x12 200 watt and the 100 watt guys will have to pay for it making the 100 watt about as expensive as the 2x12.
As to the Katana, i would be darn sure about it's tone before you buy it because having played one it was IMO pretty lousy sounding compared to the mustang. Shrill and thin and digital sounding to me at least. And chances are almost sure that the new mustang will sound even better from all accounts i've read.

You are a bit high on those GT amp prices oczad and the GT 200 comes with the 4 button foot switch.

Regarding the Boss Katana I agree with you and will only add that amp is also a one trick pony compared to even our current line of Mustangs.

Who knows, but the 40 might be $200 or $249, instead of $299.
