When Amazon had the GT-40 up it was $299, undercutting the JC22 by $100.

As HIO listed, that is a lot of amp for three bills.

I am looking forward to seeing how this evolves.

Yes, and the Jazz Choruses do not do distortion/overdrive well and they don't take very many outboard distortion/overdrive pedals very well as well which is a deep subject. <g>

The Mustang GTs are a whole other animal and as you so elegantly stated the GT 40 could be a great grab and go amplifier with maybe a great stereo chorus with its two speakers like the Fender Princeton Chorus which taught me what a solder sucker was. I had to replace a bunch of input switches which required removing solder off of the circuit board and then soldering new ones back on.

Speaking of which the Mustang 2 which is also 40 watts gets *really* loud on about 5. Again,... mic the sucker if you need more razamataza. :P I guess we shall see, I mean hear sooner than later.

At first the drop in weight from the original Mustang line to the GTs concerned me, but just like technology and let's take microprocessors per say maybe the design and layout allows for more with less. The wood they use is going to make a difference as well and I am of the age where my real tube Twin isn't going anywhere with me anymore; back breaker for sure after you utilize those casters.

I can tell you how it HAS worked out. I've used it in every amp i have owned for at least 27 years. I think i may have used it before that but not regularly. It's in my current mustang III V2. The thing i like best about them is the feel. The sound is good, but i wouldn't call it a lot better in all ways. It's mainly the feel, the way it responds to your playing and the way the notes punch thru everything. I'm surprised you haven't heard of them unless maybe you haven't been playing long because they've been around since the late 70's or early 80's and are one of the most popular guitar speakers. Nothing sounds or feels quite like them, and a lot of great players use them. SRV used them, Philip Sayce uses them, Zakk Wylde uses them, and a lot of others. But like i say, much of it is the way that they respond. If you like classic rock in the vein of tom petty for example, you might not like them because of the sound which is sort of a little of everything. So something like that for example with a very crunchy bright papery tone would be better served with a more traditional speaker. But if you play a variety of styles they are great, plus for single note solos theres nothing that comes close IMO.

Would you say that these speakers smooth out the tone a little? What i mean by that is the mustang has a sort of gritty tone and not sure if its the speaker or the actual amp.

The current Mustang I V2 is not being discontinued. The rest of the V2 line is gone, but the MI will remain in thier catalog right beside the new Mustang GT line. That directly from the mouth of a fender rep. The new GT line is slated for may AFAIK. I will buy the GT 100 watter the day i see them on the sales floor. I cannot wait.

I just love having a conversation with myself. Can you tell I am excited? Oh wait, it looks like oczad has chimed in when I went to preview my post. Hi!

Looks like the GT 40 has a closed back design but with a very interesting and fairly large nice looking round open port in the back.

This allows air to flow out of the speaker cabinet and is designed to increase the bass response of the two 6.5 inch speakers. When the woofer or speaker moves back and forth in the speaker cabinet it moves air.

I think this might also help the amp to be less boxy sounding as well.

I have a subtle feeling that Fender just might hit the ball out of the ballpark with this whole new line and who knows I might even consider getting the stereo GT 200 weighing in at a mere 34 lbs. I like true chorusing and it sure beats the back breaking 85 pound Twin Reverb.

Yeah, not that I plan on getting one, but I am looking forward to hearing how the GT-200 compares with the MIV V2. I played the latter for a few years and enjoyed it.

One thing is for sure, I will not be buying the new mustang if it's not more flexible with mix and matching effects. I ended up with a pedal board in front of mustang because I couldn't have compressor + overdrive, them it grew from there.

It'll need to be a significant improvement over my MIIIv2 for me to shell out more of my hard earned money. It's a shame we had to wait for a hobbyist to provide a way to drive the amp from a cell phone (Remuda), so Fender's way of "listening" to customers by asking to buy a new device within a few years rather than supporting the existing one did not endear me to them.

For me, the new mustang need only have a little better tone quality than my MIII V2 and i'll buy it. The difference between 10% better tone quality in tube about probably averages a $500-1000 in price. At $400, i can sell my MIII V2 for about 2 bills and it's cost me $200 for the upgrade in tone. It's funny....for 50 years players have been jumping thru hoops and paying a fortune to improve thier tone a few percent. Now an amp that costs as much as a boutique pedal and no one wants to upgrade from a V2 regardless of whether the tone improvement is big, but they will happily upgrade if it had some better routing possibilities. Man, when did tone start coming in 2nd place next to routing and effects etc etc?

I dunno....i just find tone is far and away #1 and the rest is icing that is a very very very distant 2nd place. Give me the new GT and if it has ONE great tone thats better then the one great tone i use in my V2 and i'll upgrade, even if it comes with NO effects ! Hell, I've paid 3-5 times as much for single channel tube amps that looking back didn't work any better then the mustang in a live situation and of course had no effects or tuner. Oh well....just the rantings of an old guy who just can't understand why playing guitar should require a pilots license. (oh boy, the flames this is gonna generate ! )

I hear ya Papa but call me a fanboy because I love to be considered a boy. <g> The amps rocked as they were but still had limitations but my two Deluxe Reverbs had a mountain of limitations.

With all due respect, the developer was no hobbyist when it came to Remuda and I am grateful for his hard and excellent work which probably turned out to be a penny on the dollar and Fender was probably taking notes.

Also, it has been almost a lifetime in this digital age since Fender has come out with a new modeling amp and not just a few years. Your Mustang still has value so sell it fast.

That is because it fills the void on the dirt cheap and small modeling amps that Fender didn't want to go for in the new GT line and probably or definitely not practical IMHO.

Same here. I'm dying here, but i was told by a friend who's a fender dealer his rep told him some time in May is when it should ship. True or not who knows. Can't always trust what a rep says but hopefully thats the case. If that IS the case I assume we'll see fender releasing ads/info within 2-4 weeks at most.
If i haven't already said it 50 times, i intend to buy one the second they arrive at guitar center to hopefully replace my MIII V2 that i love to death. But i think the new one is going to be astounding. If not, 45 day return policy and i'm out nothing.

It is weird, and a long story fairly short. I have owned and operated so many tube amps it is ridiculous and I tried modeling over and over for what seems about around two decades ago starting with Line 6 which is now owned by Yammy (Yamaha) and nothing came close until the affordable Fender Mustang line of pedals and amps which came out which I utterly loved.

Call me crazy but I can achieve lift- off with a lot of tweaking and I am not talking heroin here. K

For some really weird reason based on a lot of data hitting my head I think Fender is going to make us really proud.

I have owned and still own so much of their gear I almost feel like a distant cousin or something.

They did go to bat for me on many numerous occasions in support over the years and were stellar.

My Mustang amp and Floor was a Godsend for me and my needs. Go Fender!!! GT baby!... and I promise to tell you if they suck. <g>

I'm really excited for this new amp. Been waiting and watching for a long time.

Anyone know these answers?

1. Will the 40's two 6.5 speakers be full range (FRFR)? If so ... it's a super loud Bluetooth speaker in addition to a guitar amp, jam track mp3s from my phone will sound great, and an acoustic guitar would sound good.

2. Is the looper confirmed? It's on some product pages at the bottom when talking about the footswitch. Something more powerful than Line6 Spider V 60's would be great (which is a super basic looper that can't utilize its built-in drum loops).

Thanks!
