So I just got the GT100, but I can't get the Tone app downloaded. Has anyone else been able to download it? I get prompted for an ID, and I tried my account for fender.com but no luck. Also, any ideas when the new amps will be posted on Fender.com? I need to order the foot switch.

same problem here.

As a general note, we've set up some support information re: Mustang™ GT and the Tone App at the following link - it's worth keeping this bookmarked, as we'll be adding to it over time:

https://support.fender.com/hc/en-us/sec ... ng-GT-Tone

That said, for more specific issues re: logging in and whatnot, feel free to file a support ticket here:

https://support.fender.com/hc/en-us/requests/new

The only item I'd quickly interject here is a note that the login and password that you use here on our Forums is *not* the same as the one that you'll use within Fender's other digital products such as Tone. So ... do keep that in mind: if you're trying to sign in to the app using your Forums credentials that won't work. Instead, you'll need a Fender Connect account: get one here if you don't already have one.

Hey, Omar. I still love the carbon covering; but, having gigged with Fender gear amongst other brands in the sixties (remembering when the metal flake Kustoms hit town with an explosion), I understand the original black Tolex for continuity and mixing and matching. However, taking a look at custom coverings and the variety available as an aftermarket, I, for one, would be happy to see that trend of carbon complemented or replaced by some more adventurous groovy patterns and colours to give the new amp a life of its own. Another textured colour, patterned black or grey would suit me just fine. Maybe two tone? If straight black is warranted then I believe old school look is the road to take (with metal. the industrial vibe, and punk being included accordingly). I also appreciate beautiful woods, however, good for the home but not so much for gigging. IMHO. YMMV.

As far as graphics, having worked with graphics artists, I know there is rhyme and reason. but personal preference will always dictate. Just sayin'.

Traditional knobs and funky ones are also personal preference. It does make sense to upgrade the knobs with a more modern presentation.

With cosmetics of the GTs I have some concern how the grill cloth rolls over at the top leaving it susceptible to wear and tear. Maybe, that will change with a hands on demo.
Last. but not least, perhaps the sides could be built to accept interchangeable skins or modular fittings to suit the individual (that way you could upgrade the look as the budget allows). I slapped on optional glossy rosewood sides onto my class A preamp and stereo hifi amp and I'd love to have a similar type option on the guitar amp. Just an idea. Just make sure one of those skins or modules is black.
Having brought that up, the GT 200 will still be in my crosshairs, but, I'll wait till the hoopla dies down and the verdict has covered all the bases.

Still plenty to like about the new GTs. Hard to say if I love them yet. This might be a long engagement. Meanwhile. the V1 affair is still going strong.

Cheers!

Yes it is, I love my III V1 and it is staying no matter what , I'm so close to pulling the trigger on a 40 right now, but the Big III will always have a place in my gear collection.

You definitely need both. Haha. :-)

I don't recall if I saw previously that the new Mustang GT's are WiFi connected. I'm totally interested in purchasing one now.

I think the only thing I do not like about my Mustang IV V.2 is that I think the volume should be consistent through all presets. Let's say I'm playing on preset 7 and have the volume where I want it. I then decide I want another preset so I start turning the dial.. all of the sudden the volume is SUPER loud. Especially annoying when there's other people in the house.

I wish as I went through presets it would make the volume the same as what I had set it.

It might be nice but it's not practical to have the computer do it - that would stop a boost preset working!
Plus it's hard for the computer to know how loud something is due to added gain/stomps/ treble - it's all down to your ear's perception.

But... just go through all the presets set volume level by ear and save it.
Only needs doing once!

According to the specs sheets, the GTs don't have Tolex but a non-brand vinyl covering.

Good to know. Thanks, arth1.

For those who don't know about Tolex: It is a brand name of a waterproof product originated by the General Tire Corporation, with a backing friendly to glue, less stretchable than vinyl, and tougher than vinyl for roadworthy duty.

It should be noted that a lesser plastic leather (pleather) product Naugahyde originated from the United States Rubber Company. Commonly found in upholstery and auto products, Naugahyde found its way as a covering for amps such as Kustom (known for their introduction of sparkly glossy hot rod rolled and pleated amp coverings) which did quite well, but it is not to be confused with the durability of Tolex.

However, if durabilith is not a concern. there are plenty of sharp looking options. But, for durability Tolex has its niche, and it comes in a variety of colours and specialty patterns/finishes; however, you'll find it mostly in black or tweed when it comes to amps. :D FSB

Since we're on the topic of accuracy and not calling other vinyls Tolex, it's worth noting that Fender amps never came in tweed, which is wool, but cotton twill.

arth1, you are right to point this out. It seems that there is so much confusion about what was and what is. There are so many sites and varieties out there to get information on this topic, unfortunately, most musicians and providers toss the word tolex around even though it isn't. My faux pas in my search.

One of many examples:
https://www.speakerbuildersupply.com/Tw ... ttwd01.htm

Others simply include Tweed with Tolex listings.

It has been reported that with amps, cases, and speakers, they are usually not Tolex except for Fender and Rickenbacker.

Tolex has been found in hearses, ambulances, autos, boats, and more. But, the chances of finding tweed Tolex is unlikely to nil.

Another example of definition trade-offs:

I think plain and striped works pretty good. As they say, "You can't tell a book by its cover". The same goes for an amp.
