Seriously disappointing. Oh well.

Maybe I should just give up on sound reinforcement and use them as really good home stereo speakers...

I was disappointed as well. Thought maybe we could look forward to some improvement but instead they're cutting them.

When fender cut the price from $999 to $699 last fall, I thought it for Christmas sales. They were never advertised as closeouts.

The format of a mini-line array over a sub-woof continues to gain popularity and JBL recently released their EON ONE for $999

Turbosound (a British company I've never heard of) recently released a trio of offerings in the mini line array/sub-woof format from $499-$899

Check this very familiar looking product:

http://www.ld-systems.com/en/series/mau ... d6dkg0c441

LD Systems apparently was the original manufacturer of the Expo. Their Maui 11 model looks to be the Fender Expo with a couple of tacked on features. It has an additional combo port input for a vocal mic, a 1/8" TS high-Z input for a guitar, and a 1/8" stereo input jack for "MP3" (a.k.a. "any audio device with headphone jack"), plus three volume knobs to serve as a simple mixer for voice, guitar/MP3, and line-in (from a mixer).

The specs say the mid-range drivers are 3", while Fender said 3.5", but I'm suspecting it's the same drivers with different tolerances for measurement accuracy. They also claim 1200 watts peak output. Fender never mentioned peak output, preferring to say that it's good for a crowd of 300. Neither mentions RMS, which is the gold standard for actually telling you what the speaker's wattage limits are.

So, either this is the updated Fender Expo, or LD Systems has made a perfect clone.
