Welcome to the forum F-Stop! I'm so old I know what an F-Stop is. lol

Way back when about 1968 I bought an album titled "Play Electric Bass with the Ventures" or something like that. There was also some "Play Guitar with the Ventures" albums that a guitar playing friend bought also and the two of us wound up forming a band and gigged for several years until mid 1972. But we never played Ventures songs out, just for fun. One side of these records had the entire tracks so you could hear how it should sound and the other side had the tracks minus your part so you could play along.

I think their slickest work was on the "Hawaii Five-O" album. Check out the vintage axes, the Farfisa Professional model organ, Sunn S series amps, hair and in this video. Still looking for a Farfisa Professional model and never ran across one in 100% playable shape anywhere!

Oh man, that was great. When I was young, they were my all time favorite band. It was a sad moment when they went to Japan and never came back. Instrumental music sort of died off here, but took off in Japan. You gotta make a living, so one plays where one gets gigs I guess. That video was a first for me. I've never seen them play an SG, Tele and Hofner Bass. Those were the guys responsible for my love affair with guitars.

It was a sad day when Mel Taylor, the Venture's drummer died, but his son followed in his father's footsteps with the Ventures. Mel was voted, can't remember when, the best Rock 'n' Roll drummer and was highly sought after. Here's a video of one of Mel's drum solos. This guy was tops.

About 20 years ago, I was corresponding back and forth with Nokie Edwards who started off with the Ventures playing bass. He's the lead player wearing the hat on the video. Eventually he did most of the lead work with them. While talking with Nokie, he offered to sell me his Mosrite that he played. If there was ever a time that I needed bread, it was then. I can't remember what he was asking, but I just didn't have the clams then. Errrrrrr! Talk about back when. I purchased their first record "Walk, Don't Run" in '60. That was it. I was hooked.

Thanks for the post. Whenever I see one of their video, I get goose bumps. I can never get enough of them. I just wish they had stayed State side.

Cheers
