Hello all -

I'm not really a guitarist even though I've had this guitar for 30+ years. I buy & sell vintage drums and am on a vintage drum forum so know the scene generally.

The guitar in question: '66 Telecaster w/ original case, few issues other than a couple nicks/wear marks on the Candy Apple Red crazed finish. About 3-4 years ago I had it tuned up at Willies in St. Paul and was told what they thought it would be worth, that they thought it would be quite sought after, if I ever decided to sell it they knew a few folks who would want a smack at it (all this the tech told me without asking value).

What I'm asking: am I on the right forum or is this a non-vintage Fender forum; what might a guitar like this typically fetch. I will gladly post a few photos if I'm in the right room.

Thanks! Chris

Give it a try ...

It was in '06 that it was tuned up. Time flies. I don't know what's gone on w/ the vintage collectible guitar market, but at the time I was informed that the finish was quite rare (it may not be Candy Apple Red - not sure what it is), condition was VG to excellent, all original parts except except for the pickup switch being replaced.

It's the original finish - I believe you're seeing the reflection from the overhead light source. The tech at Willies told me apropos of nothing that the finish was rare (Ryan Adams just bought a guitar there; rare guitars galore) - Chris

Wow, no one's peeing over a '66 tele in a rare finish in excellent condition? Any non-drummer on VDF w/ a rare drum kit would have had guys begging to tell him what he has. Maybe I am in the wrong place after all.

I already have a general clue, but am just curious about the finish (what is it called?) & general comments on a classic guitar. We are building a house & if it's worth enough I'd sell it for the dough, but also since it should be in the right hands and played (& not neglected anymore!).

Thx ...

I do thank you for your comments - Chris

I don't think it's technically Candy Apple Red. This guitar has a crazed finish; CAR is a strictly flat painted surface. That's why I was told it's rare ... at least that's why I'm here asking - Chris

Hang on to the tele for a while longer. It looks great. The market is a bit soft right now. I have a 67 in excellent condition and the value has dropped several thousand dollars over the last 3 to 4 years. I am sure it will rebound.
