Just allowing myself to slow down at work a little and re-acquainting myself with my old hobby.
I own a Competition Mustang (serial number 338... so I think it's between a '69 and '72?) that I bought from a friend when I was in the Navy and stationed in Spain back in ~ '76. I also own a (repaired) L6-S that had its head broken off. The original owner did a fine job repairing it and I got it for <$100 back in ~'81? I also picked up a ~Fender Starcaster acoustic in a moment of weakness some time ago that I keep in the living room and mess with occasionally between commercials.
I also own a Peavey Classic Amp and a homemade Bass Amp. All these were (are) in the basement in near my computer. It's a semi-finished basement, and it is comfortable--not cold and damp or anything.
I just recently purchased a Fender Mustang I V2 amp. I wanted something small that I could keep in the living room that wouldn't be in the way and assessable. I've discovered YouTube (yeah, I'm late, I know) and exploring what is available on it. It has SO MUCH! Anyway, I came across videos on these little Fender amps and they looked just like what I was looking for--something small, but not cheap.
Next I am about to download and test drive the Fender Fuse software. Things have changed so much in the last 30-40 years...heh.
Seeking opinions: On my Competition Mustang, it looks like the pickup near the neck has started to become unwound--looks like the cat may have snagged it, or something. Are originals available, or should I not bother too much with trying to get exact replacements? It's not like I'm ever going to sell this, or anything--too much sentimental value. But I would like to keep it as close to original as I can.

Nice to be here and hope to talk to you all again.

Pacus

Hi Pacus, Welcome to The Show.

If in fact the cat has gotten into the pickup coil, which seems unlikely, I'd have the original pickup rewound by a competent rewinding service. Pity if that is what happened. But I really doubt that is it. But even if so it can be fixed.

Since the pickups are covered, I'm wondering if something else isn't going on there, like with the picking mounting tubes which is a latex type rubber material that surrounds the pickup mounting screws under the pickguard. Hope it isn't the winding really but the mounting tubes. I don't see how a kitty could really get under the pickup covers. This instrument is approaching 60 years old so you'd expect the rubber to be breaking down. No worries as it can be user replaced with no de-soldering required.

It is likely if the pickup winding was nicked by the kitty it would break which would kill the pickup dead. So if it is still working I'd think something else is going on and the pickup mounting tubes breaking down is a very good possibility. If it is the tubes they are part number 0994916000. You can order them by part number lots of places including your local dealer who might actually have them in stock.
