Hey, everyone! I have a Fender Select Jazz (the amber passive version) on the way and thought I should go ahead and join the community. I've been playing bass for nearly 30 years now, since I was 16. I've been in bands more or less non stop that entire time. My primary instrument has been a Rickenbacker 4003 for the bulk of my playing life. I've had two, one in Jetglo from the 80s and one in Fireglo that I bought recently. I've also owned and loved an Ibanez Roadstar II, a Grestch Electromatic short scale and a Hofner HCT500/1.

Fenders have never been my go-to player, for one reason or another. The primary one probably being that the examples I encountered early on were P basses with very U shaped, baseball bat type necks. The ones I played never really fit my hand or my style. By the time I really got to spend some time with a J I had already encountered and fallen in love with the Rickenbacker 4003, which, as you bass players know, is a VERY similar instrument in some critical ways.

Anyway, long story short, I came across and had a chance to play a Fender Select Series Jazz a couple weeks ago and I was really impressed. The neck was fast, comfortable and very playable. The Select pickups seemed to have a bit more versatility than I remember other Jazz basses having (doesn't mean much coming from me as I haven't played many Jazz basses) and the build quality of the bass was outstanding. They're streeting around $1,299 right now so I pulled the trigger on one. It'll be here next week!

That's my story.

The forum can always use another four-stringer, welcome aboard.

Rick's are cool (as Roger Glover and Chris Squire can attest).

What kind of amp rig you got?

Arjay
