I'm Rob. I'm a native New Yorker, born in Manhattan, lived on Long Island, married, and moved to central New York, where I still reside.

I've been playing since 1965, when most of the "oldies" were "newies", and Top 40 AM radio was it. The vast majority of guitars and amps I've owned are Fenders... Strats are my favorite, but Teles are a close runner-up. I've had maybe a half-dozen of each. Every few years I switch from one to the other, usually by trade.

Amps that I can remember include a '65 Bandmaster, a Twin-Amp, a couple of Twin-Reverbs, several tweed Vibroluxes (harp players kept trying to swipe them), and a brown Super-Amp that I had for the longest time.

I quit playing years ago, and now I've picked it up again, but these old fingers aren't making it easy!

My current squeeze is a 2001 MiM Classic '50s model in Surf Green. I did extensive work on it while recuperating from back surgery earlier this year. (I couldn't even pick the thing up for a while, but a soldering iron or a screw driver I could manage.) She runs through a Champion 20.

Hi, Rob,

We have something in common in that ‘65 was the first year I picked up a buddy’s ‘62 Strat and I learned to play those same oldies that were new then through a Band Master. ‘66 found me at an AM/FM/TV superstation that kept those hits a comin’. Unfortunately, I didn’t keep up with the guitar (switched mainly to drums) as I should have, playing acoustic sporadically until 6 years ago when the Strat came along. So, I salute you for representing us oldies but goodies.

Welcome,

FSB
