Hi Guys,

I am a new convert to Fender. Used Ibanez, gibson and shecter in the past but Fender has truly spoken to me. Specifically the Jazzmaster.

I currently have the Jazzmaster Player series. Any one having issues with Jazzmaster Player series Setup? and how do I fix the floating tremolo?

Regards,
Fabian

Welcome to the Forum Fabian ! A good guitar tech will be a big help setting up your Jazzmaster. "and how do I fix the floating tremolo?" How do you mean?

You picked a nice Fender with the Jazzmaster, Fabian. While Fenders and other guitars can be fine out of the box, with the possibility that you could set it up yourself, a proper complete setup by a tech as SBLS suggested is always a good route to go at least for the first time. It’s less hassle and inexpensive. The key is to explain to the tech how you see you using it, and not the for the tech’s playing. Whether you want lower action or not, and whether you want to change the string gauge or not, you might want to try the existing string gauge first as a reference, and after if desired usually one will go no higher than up one gauge unless you want to alter your guitar nut, etc. Then you can decide what action you expect for the tremolo (more or less or none at all).

The Jazzmaster and Jag are basically similar if not the same in principal. I’ll show you both and hope this answers your question, or at least gets you started:

The next video is one way to lock/stop the trem from working making it a hard tail. There are other ways as with other Fenders (such as blocking in the spring cavity); and alternative explanations are also available on YT.

Enjoy the Forum(s), Fabian, and good luck with the setup which you may have done already.
